Airport luggage 'cage' too small: any redress?

So my friend specifically bought a small suitcase to meet Flybe's required dimensions for hand luggage. However, at check-in at Norwich airport it would not fit in their luggage 'cage' (suggesting that this device is actually slightly smaller than the size they say they allow) and she had to leave it with a friend.
Does she have any redress against the airline or airport staff?

Has your friend since measured her case accurately, including any wheels, handles etc..?Evolution, not revolution0

No, because she left it with the friend who had taken her to the airport and flew without it. Since she specifically bought it to be of precisely the dimensions allowed by Flybe I presume that it was measured properly at the time of purchase, but do not know this.0 -
Overpacked perhaps and bulging out?0

I remember an acquaintance who regularly flies hand luggage only on Flybe said on their flight a couple of weeks ago that everyone was now needing to check in their luggage.
May be worth checking the t&cs from time of booking and now, as if there’s a change in permitted dimensions make a complaint on the basis that she should have been bound by the size at time of booking (unless t&cs cover them to change without warning).Save £12k in 2019 #360 -
Would need to know exact measurements of case including wheels and handles and wether it was overpacked to know wether there is any redress
I fly from Norwich quite a bit never had my hand luggage measured but that’s with KLM so not relevant I guess0 -
Flybe has a smaller cabin luggage size than other airlines - how carefully did she check their measurements, do you know? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Redress against what exactly?0

I've noticed a lot of luggage gets labelled as 'cabin sized' when in fact the clearly stated dimensions exceed the limits for a number of airlines. It might be that might be a mis measurement , forgetting the wheels need to be measured or the side seam protruding.
It seems unlikely that an airline would deliberately have cages that do not fit their stated size requirements, in fact it is a story, if true , that many a tabloid would love to cover.
Even the OP is not sure exactly how accurately their friend measured the case so it is more likely to be user error.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I also find it difficult to believe that Flybe would have measuring cages at the airport which are smaller than their published hand baggage dimensions.
Possibly your friend has measured their bag erroneously, or it was packed very full and caused the size of the bag to expand past the permitted size.
I think checking these possibilities first would be best before seeking recourse against the airline, airport or checking staff.0 -
I fly with Flybe regularly, they used to be quite flexible with bags size, which inevitably led to people taking the proverbial. Since the new year they have become very strict at enforcing their size rules with pretty much every bag being checked for size and dozens of people per flight being charged either during check-in or at the gate.
As above Op, your friend needs to check the size of the bag including handles and wheels as many manufacturers only state the size of the actual compartment on their labels.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
