Potentially cheaper way to get Sky Broadband

Just got off the phone with Sky.

I was aiming to sign up for ADSL broadband (I don't have fibre in my area). The salesman kept trying to push the entertainment pack (with TV) as he said my speeds would not be very high and might be hard to stream HD etc.
The Sky broadband on its own is £17 per month with a 29.95 initial set up.

The sky entertainment pack is £30 per month with a £10 set up. Also, I was offered a £50 mastercard voucher. I was also told that I had a 31 day cooling off period for the TV and could downgrade to internet only for no charge - I kept running the scenario past him and he kept saying no charge!

I figure it makes a lot of sense to sign up for the enterainment as well. If the broadband is good enough, I just downgrade within 31 days.
For 18 months the costs would be:
Broadband only: £336
Entertainment pack and downgrade to Broadband only: £279

Does this seem legit or do you think it could be harder to get out of the Entertainment pack then he says?

Is there a particular reason for choosing Sky?

Do you have an existing Dish and Box, or will they be supplying & installing?

Have you done a speed prediction?

I believe the previous owner of the flat had sky as there was an old sky box left in the flat.
Also, for internet alone I find them fairly competitive when just looking at ADSL packages.

What are you trying to achieve?

If it is best value ADSL then Sky is fine, or you could save a pound or two with the Post Office or Talktalk. (And also get a £50 giftcard with TT).

If you want Sky TV, then only Sky provide the full range of channels. (But £30pm is a lot to pay for TV).

If there are particular channels you want, then they may be available from other providers, cheaper. Have a look firstly at Freeview and Freesat, and also Now TV, Plusnet TV, EE TV, Talktalk TV, BT TV, etc.

If one of your desired channels is Sky Atlantic, then that's easy because it is ONLY available from Sky and Now TV.

Personally, I wouldn't be signing up on a contract and downgrade basis unless I was absolutely sure they would honour it. It seems like a lot of potential cost and hassle for a discount price you can get elsewhere without it.
