    Get a decent £180 - 250 phone. this will last you 2 - 3 years
Switch for SIM only or PAYG once min contract term serve.

That did cross my mind. SIM only does work out cheaper. I'll have to look into if I can keep my number and see if I can get a decent phone for around the £200 mark.

Your phone number is on your SIM, which you put in your new phone. Even if you change provider to one with a better SIM-only deal, it's easy to port your number over. You don't lose it.

No. I'm the worst. I'd had phone insurance for years and was trying to cut costs.. didn't work out really. :(

Maybe you should try being careful or better still put a set amount each month into a savings account to cover the cost of a new phone eg say £25 over the course of a year would cover the cost of a new phone.

Maybe putting money away would of been better, I had been paying for years then stopped with the new contract to save, under a year and a half it's gone. If I'd put the money away It still would have been there.. Also for sure will have 'find my phone' for the new one.
Shows you there are somethings you shouldn't save on (Insurance/ putting money away).
