With 02 contract - repairs

My phone has been playing up for a while and most recently it no longer registers there is a SIM card in it so i took it to 02 who said it would take upto 28 days to send it away to be repaired and thats the only thing they can offer (i went to three stores who all had no loan phones). I found out Carphone Warehouse have some in store repair engineers so im going to try to go to one of those....

My question is is the only thing they can offer a repair? or can i ask for a replacement phone? Or would it be if i want to replace the phone (as its quite old) i would have to buy one myself as O2 are only obliged to fix my existing one?

Thanks for any comments.

  • If you bought the phone from O2 direct (one of their shops or the website) you can take it to an O2 shop for repair and they provide a loan phone for a refundable £25 deposit.

i went to three O2 stores yesterday and they said they didn't have any loan phones, i am going to go to one of the CPW repair stores rather than having my phone sent off for repair for a month through an O2 store.

But does anyone know if all 02 have to offer me is the option of repairing the phone or can i ask for a new one?

    Thanks.

My Motorola V3xx was falling apart after only a couple of months and I got an O2 Cocoon as a replacement- it's possible to get to get a replacement therefore, especially as they don't seem to be able to loan you a phone.
  • It depends whats wrong with the phone itself, if it is saying 'Sim not registered' I would be more than likely to do some checks on the sim itself - has anyone done this with you?
    A sim wipe
    Manual Network Selection
    Trying sim in another phone
Trying another sim in your phone?
Trying a brand new sim in the phone?

CPW warehouse said they dont support the model and the next 02 store i tried said its not under warranty so they would charge to send it away and fix it and i should buy a new phone instead.
