I guess it may depend on the calibre of the local villainry but Ive got obvious IPcams that have survived for years. Most visitors don’t even notice them, judging by the directions in which they look.

If you have a motion detecting, well, people detecting system, do you need a doorbell ?
  • Doesnt it defeat the whole security aspect if it can just be taken off?

Tbh it would persuade me to buy one if they offered replacement for stolen ones.

I think I might invest in CCTV that’s more discreet. A Ring doorbell was stolen from my area last weekend.

I reckon the number of replacement doorbells suddenly being "pinched" would be incredible. . . :D

But I really can't see any point in putting anything expensive and easily taken within scrote reach.

I've got an IP camera, and that's up out of reach without a ladder.

Which system do you have? Curry’s over a few cameras. Are they easy to use etc?

Why drag up a thread from earlier in the year ?
  • Why reply to a thread you don't consider to be worth replying to?
  • So, is there nothing else that you need to make this work, you hang the thing on your front door and someone can just rob it and put it on their own door or sell it?

I thought they needed some sort of hub indoors that it connected through

I assume that they just connect to your router (as any other device) ?
In which case - are they "locked" to a specific account/details ?
    I would not use one

I don't understand why people buy these, maybe can someone enlighten me. All a burglar has to do is wrap up a box and come to your front door with an attempt to deliver it, when you answer from Majorca what do you say, you can't say leave it on the doorstep as I'm in the bath. I'm intrigued.

  • It won't be of any use to anyone who steals it, because the doorbell is uniquely registered to your own Ring account online. If someone steals it and tries to set it up for themselves, they would not be allowed to and you would get an email alert about the attempt. (This info is from the Ring helpline - I asked because I was worried about this).

We like our Ring because we get an alert on our mobiles whenever someone comes up the drive or into any part of the front garden and the motion detection gives us live and recorded views of what is happening. If a burglar comes up and starts breaking in, then it's time to phone the police! I also find it useful when I'm in the garden and would be too far away to hear a normal doorbell.

(Disclaimer: I don't have any connection with the Ring company or shares in it!).
