I’m doing as ML suggests and doing a credit check to see what products I’ve had in the past that may have had PPI. However using the Creditclub MSE tool I get forwarded to Experian which asks 3 questions to verify my identity, the first 2 related to my mortgage provider and payment and the third is “Who provides your credit agreement?”

I have no idea what this means. I’ve called my mortgage provider (building society) who also provides my credit card, and they had no idea what I was talking about. They asked the credit card department, existing mortgages and new mortgages and loans teams an no one had heard of this question before.

Anyone know how to find out this information?

The MSE creditclub Experian site demands I answer this question before proceeding and gives me 5 options to choose from. But none of them look familiar.

Also called Experian and they can’t help me either. So please can someone explain what this question is asking and is it related to the mortgage or something else?

    Hi,

The Credit Club verification questions are required by Experian to confirm your identity and are taken based on information in your credit report based on the information you provided (your name, date of birth, and address).

If it’s providing you with a list of companies that you don’t recognise, this may be because some companies operate under different names - another user has already given some examples but some common ones are:

    > Any store cards for example Debenhams credit card is operated by company called ‘New Day’ and may appear as New Day on your report
    > First Direct accounts may appear on your report as HSBC
    > Same with M&S credit cards (also part of HSBC)
    > Aqua Credit Card may also appear as NewDay on your report

If you’re unsure it could be worth checking this directly with the company to see what other names the provider could be under. Alternatively, you could select an option that you feel closely resembles any credit account you have.

If you’re certain that these companies listed in that question aren’t linked to your credit history in any way, then it might be worth obtaining a copy of your statutory credit report so that you can double-check there aren’t any errors on your file.

You can find more information on how to do this here:
    https://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/statutory-report.html

Your Statutory Experian report is free to request.

I do understand that this may be a little frustrating, but these checks are in place to prevent fraudulent access to your personal details so it isn’t something we can override.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks, seems to be the alt name for my phone finance company. Quite obscure and MSE Creditclub website could make this easier to understand rather than be listed after 2 questions about my mortgage with no context or hints what this might be.

    Hi dabozuk,

I'm pleased you've now managed to find out which option to select here.

These questions are required by Experian in order to confirm your ID. Unfortunately, we have no control over whether you'll be asked these questions (not all users will be prompted to answer these) or the content of these (as it's info taken from your report) but will pass on the feedback about your experience you've had with it on this occasion.
