Perhaps it was you telling him "to cancel the PCN immediately as a matter of urgency" that made a difference.

Others on here have reported success when contacting the CEO's office and asking "if they could possibly cancel the charge for what must be a valued customer and here is my Clubcard number to demonstrate that".

So emailed Tesco's CEO Dave Lewis and complained and told him to cancel the PCN immediately as a matter of urgency and this was the reply I got:

    " Dear Mr REDACTED NAME,
I am so sorry you have received a Car Parking Charge in error. This certainly isn't good. Unfortunately, we can't appeal this charge from here, as it was issued by Highview.
If you visit; the web address for highviewparking then Highview can investigate and appeal the charge, as it was a mistake on their part.
I do hope this is resolved quickly for you.
    Kind regards

    REDACTED NAME
Customer Service Executive to the Board"

I thought everyone that complains to the Tesco CEO gets a result and their PCN quoshed there and then. The CEO's department obviously don't care.

Do I just appeal on Highview's website as he suggests? I was and still am hesitant to do that. What does everyone else think please? I'm not sure what my next step should be here - call the Tesco Dundee parking helpline?

Which bit of my earlier post was difficult to understand?

Let's put it this way, normally a CEO will be happy to cancel tickets from this scam. Of late, Tesco are playing hardball with their customers and YES, they can cancel but now they prefer to fob off their customers.

It is simple, you simply don't shop at Tesco again, use up your clubcard points and shop elsewhere. The message should be passed to your family and friends ..... there are better supermarkets around who may also have scammers in their car parks but the CEO has a better customer mentality

Word and mouth is the best way to let others know about poor services and right now Tesco offers very bad service.

Why do you think Tesco opened a cheapo store called Jacks ???
Because they are scared stiff of Aldi and Lidl
History tells us that bad service means lack of sales and profits. Tesco, despite their huge turnover also has huge overheads and they cannot maintain a business by showing contempt to their customers. JUST DUMP TESCO

You ask "what next" ? You are in scotland and as long as you DO NOT name the driver, just forget it despite that you will receive letters from idiot debt collectors which you ignore

Just imagine if the parking company found some sort of loophole to take you to court in Scotland and the press got hold of it. I can see the headlines now ... "Shop at Tesco and you'll end up in court"

You no doubt have heard of Carly in Dundee who lost her case over £20,000 plus. Carly ignored everything and with that amount, the PPC took her to court. BUT, it was on a private estate not a supermarket and the stupid parking company lost in the end because Carly went bankrupt

Nothing more for you to do with this, it will be dropped. What you can do is boycott Tesco who are stupid enough to support money scammers and spend your money elsewhere.

Even in the deep south where I am, Tesco is now a dirty word and I dumped them 3 years ago because of their contempt

Reply an say you wanted a reply from the CEO's Department, not Customer Service, and that in Scotland there is no POPLA appeal (so NO independent appeal open to you) and you certainly will NOT be telling Highview who the driver was, like some victim of a scam.

Ask politely for the complaint to be escalated and refer to your spends in Tesco.

Or, I suggest you simply ring Dundee and DO NOT MENTION the previous complaint, and start again until you get a more helpful person.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Write bad stuff on their Facebook page, tweet it, and complain to your MP.

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of alleged contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors. Is has been suggested by an MP that some of these companies may have connections to organised crime.

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, (especially Smart}, and others have already been named and shamed in the House of Commons as have Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each week), hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned. They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P. for unprofessional conduct

The problem become so widespread that MPs agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Hopefully, this will become law by Easter . n
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

Whilst people should try every avenue, Tesco has gone beyond reason and logic. Those writing to the CEO get downgraded to the so called executive customer service who it appears to be instructed to fob off customers. The parking scammers who infest Tesco car parks are the fob off excuse.

When you consider that Tesco opened their own department to deal with parking and in their smaller stores gave cameras to their own staff to ticket people, they are really not user friendly and hold customers in contempt.

I have not been to a Tesco for 3 years, it's my money to spend where I wish ..... Tesco is not one of those

I avoid them and even worse Asda like the plague, and have never set foot in Aldi.

Which is cobblers I'm sure if you read the signage it says something like managed by Highview on behalf of Tesco.

The other thing that we all over look is that this is not one error by their useless anpr system it's two.

We say it has logged the first in last out, but it has actually missed the first out AND the second in.

The latter I'm sure is just conveniently over looked by the scammers, but in any case shows what a crock of brown stuff the whole system is.
  • Well I wrote to Tesco's chief executive office again. They still said they could not do anything at the appeals stage and to just appeal to Highview directly.

I just did exactly that last Friday with my evidence. Explained the situation but never mentioned I was the driver and low and behold they have cancelled the PCN themselves in full with no further action. No apology nor acknowledgement of their mistake mind!!!

    Phew!!

Thanks for everyone's input - it was useful and reassuring and above all appreciated! ;)
