EE Upgrades - 'swapping' upgrades?

Hello all.
I currently hold 2 contracts EE.
I am eligible for a standard upgrade on contract 'A', but the phone is in great nick and it doesn't need to be upgraded.
I am not eligible for a standard upgrade on contract 'B' until September, but the phone is on it's last legs.

On the basis that I could take the upgrade on contract B in 6 months at no cost, it doesn't seem too sensible to pay to get the phone repaired. I spoke to EE to enquire as to whether I could apply the available upgrade on the 'B' phone as I didn't need it for the 'A' phone. They told me this isn't 'possible'.

My question is, could I 'do' this myself buy ordering the new upgrade for contract 'A' and then sticking in the sim card from the contract 'B' phone or is that not going to work?

"At no cost" probably means you're paying way over the odds simply because the new contract will come with a phone.

It's likely to be a much better deal to buy an unlocked phone and end the contract in September, going over to a sim only deal instead to use in the unlocked phone.

Your SIMs will work in any handset that's locked to EE, or unlocked, so you could do as you plan. But much better to replace the damaged handset sourced elsewhere, or just repair, it and switch to SIM only contract as MJ recommends.

Frankly, anything you can do to get out of the 'upgrade' merry-go-round is likely to save you money.

while I echo what others have said about getting off the upgrade merrygoround, it's worth checking what size SIM holder you've got in the 'A' phone.

Or is it just me who's got some phones so old that they've still got full-sized SIMs in, which makes it tricky to move them into a newer phone where the SIM holder is one of the smaller sizes?

Hardly a problem. Just swap it for a new sim which is multi-sized.

True, but you need to order that new SIM, so waiting until you're really keen to transfer it means a wait while the new one comes, that's what I failed to say ...

Well, why can't the OP upgrade "A" and use the "B" sim in the new phone, since they are interested in a so-called "upgrade" trap? In any case, a different size sim would take no longer to arrive (and probably less time) than a new phone.
