I applied on Saturday 9th March, received the confirmation text on Sunday 10th and the Welcome Pack email today (11th). Switch date is the 22nd March.

Not impressed: applied online on the 4th March, no news/email/texts until I received a letter about a week later asking me to go to a branch with proof of address and ID. Did that on March 14th. Again, no news until today (March 22nd) when I received another letter asking me to go to a branch with proof of address and ID! Phoned them, got on hold for ~25 min while they try to find out what happened. Finally was asked to go again to the branch, as, although they can see the scans on their screen, it was not "accepted" by the system, and need to do it again! After saying that it's quite difficult to me, as no local branch, I've been told that they are going to contact the branch and see if they can "fix it" and keep me informed...

From applying online to receiving my debit card and PIN was 6 days. Current account switch started 5 days after applying and completed today, 7 working days later. Very impressed with the speed and efficiency.
  • So they can take a while and for some reason their mail seems super slow.

I applied on the 17th, got a text saying they had the application on the 18th. On the 23rd I got a letter form them (dated the 19th lol) saying I needed to prove my income. Popped into the branch yesterday and they did everything and opened the account there and then. They do seem to have a reputation for being quite slow at opening accounts, so I'd probably go in person to open an HSBC account (also note they do require appointments to be booked).

This is endless: I got today my debit card and texts saying my account is open and my account transfer has been approved. Tried to register online but needed a Telephone Security number which I never received. Called them to set up one, but was told my Telephone security number has been blocked for security reason and I need to go to the branch with my ID (*AGAIN*!). Too late to cancel, but I'm a bit fed up now.

Final update (I hope): sorted now. I realized that part of the problem was that I had a mortgage with them (closed in 2012) and somehow, my online account and all my ID and security details were still "live"! No-one told me this in the branch or on the phone, but thankfully I found my old key pad in the bottom of a drawer, and when I finally logged in, I saw some messages waiting for me since 2012!!!
  • I thought I’d update.

My delay was due to forgetting both my husband and I had held accounts with HSBC previously (late 1990s), and so their records didn’t match my application. This apparently throws the application into a ‘pending’ pile, where it stays until a team member picks it up.

We were asked to take ID into a branch and the account was then switched a week later, 1 month after my first application. (22nd March). The £175 bonus was paid yesterday. 😁

Be aware to check all the details though as our contact information, except our address, had been taken from our old 90s accounts, which I didn’t notice until an online transaction required a verification code to be sent to my mobile. I didn’t recognise the number so had to go back into branch, where everything was sorted out.

All in all, a bit of a faff but we have the bonus so all’s we’ll that ends well.

Mine was opened around 3rd March and switch money of £175 received into the account by 28th March so very quick and painless for me.

My account has been opened and my previous current account has been closed.

However I need a 'telephone banking pin' in order to login online. Been told its in the post but I can go into a branch with ID to get it there & then without waiting for the post. Was informed in branch that the pin is 'PENDING' and I have to wait for it to arrive in the post!!!!

The 'pin' has been in the post for nearly 2 weeks now. Really frustrating because I can't login to any online banking currently...

I found out in branch that my account went overdrawn due to standing orders, I rectified the overdraft on that day (so overall I was overdrawn overnight once) and hopefully I can recoup any interest charges incurred?

Also hoping to get the £175 reward, I applied before the reward was reduced down to £150(?)

  • I applied back in January for a new account and to switch, I have only just received a text saying they will not be able to open an account and switch me until March and they missed my original switch date. This will be over the 30 days, will I still get the £175 bonus still?
