Old Style Daily Monday 25th February 2019

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I certainly like the weather we are having here, and I am trying my best to make the most of it by getting out in the sunshine for a short while each day. Later this afternoon I will go to the main park as the children are back to school and it will be quiet.

This morning will be spent on more mundane things, including cleaning the bathroom and my bedroom. I may even get a bit more wardrobe decluttering done if I have got any energy left.

My nephew has had his application to spend a year at a university in Spain accepted instead of doing a work placement for the next academic year. He came home this weekend to tell my brother and sister in law. Unfortunately, my sister in law hasn’t taken the news that her son won’t be within driving distance very well, so I’m keeping my head down for the time being until the dust settles a bit.

I need to try and find a local handyman to clean out the guttering and a couple of other jobs. The roof at the back of my house has a lot of moss on it, and it loosens off and blocks the gutters. There used to be someone who lived on the estate and was reasonably priced but he moved away a year or. I have been checking the local residents’ newsletter for adverts and asking the neighbours for recommendations, but so far haven’t found anyone.

TA it sounds like the garden is coming on well.
Dp1 I hope that all goes well today and your DGD comes home today as planned.
Hester brilliant news on the house after all of the problems with your tenants.
ScarlettRibbons glad you had a good day yesterday and enjoyed yourself.
Nelski your planned picnic sounded good, I hope that you enjoyed it.

Whatever you are doing today have a good day everyone.
  • Good morning and thank you for starting us off Hollyharvey.

I have no plans other than going for a little walk, what utter bliss! I must change the bedlinen but that's a quick job. If it is as sunny as it has been, I might get the washing dry.

TA your garden efforts do seem to be paying off, you will have a good place to sit outside.

I am going to pootle about on the net for a while and then get back to the trauma teddies. Trauma ted manufacture was interrupted by the need for two quite complex teddies for a friend but those are done now.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning All

Looks a bit foggy outside this morning, hope it burns off soon. I'm taking a friend to the hospital in a while, she has a gallstone to be removed.

Had a lovely lunch yesterday with DD, ate far too much but it was worth it!

Just work today and maybe a walk later if the weather is fine.

    Happy Monday, take care. XX

Good morning from the premier inn

Well it seems a change of environment did not mean any better sleep ho hum... least I dont have to be out for a while as according to Google maps the company is 1.4 miles away :) Should have done some prep last night but chose to watch DOI and Celebs Go Dating instead so I have that to do after this.

Had a couple of sandwiches last night but not much appetite for some reason. Be a late one home tonight so will have to try and pick something up to eat on the way

TA check you out...you certainly put me to shame with all your garden efforts ...be careful though step by step :)
Holly I can imagine she is pretty annoyed :rotfl:

Right cant put this off any more its prep time. Have a great day all:A

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black here, air feels cool, but it's cool in the mornings then warming up by lunchtime. Yesterday was another gorgeous day, forecast is much the same for today - we'll see.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 & 2 are still in their pits, DS1 still using up some annual leave before the end of their holiday year. DS2 spied the LO yorkshire pud batter and last night requested pancakes for brekkie this morning - I'll be doing those in a bit. Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, swede, yorkshires, stuffing and gravy. A few LO's in the fridge - will use them up over the next few days.

Dinner tonight will be scampi, chips/jacket potato and beans/peas for the menfolk, I'll have fish, jacket potato and veg.

We visited my parents yesterday morning as they weren't at home on Saturday when we called.

Back to work today for me, hoping it's more settled at work - can do without another week like last week. All I want to do is go to work do my job and come home. I now remember why I can't stand office politics and all that! It's horrible when you discover people will do whatever they can to protect themselves and in doing so make life difficult for others. I've always believed in our job we work as a team, we were one of the only teams I've worked in where there wasn't lots of back biting and b****ing - seems some of my colleagues have forgotten that. I'm keeping out of it.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I am excited today as my sister is coming to visit me with her two beautiful daughters. She lives in Wales but has been down at Butlins for the weekend so is popping up to visit family before she drives back. It has been a year or more since I last saw them so it will be lovely to catch up. I've knitted a couple of bunnies for the girls for Easter so they can have them early.

So today is a cleaning up and tidying day. I will wait till 9 to get everyone up but then they have to crack on. I have asked Lilly if she wants to do some cleaning for me and get paid for it so she is having a think about it, otherwise I am happy to get a cleaner and cut back on other expenses to pay for them. I only asked Lilly as she is going to Rome next month and could do with some spending money.

Dp1, I have all my fingers crossed that your grandaughter comes home today xx
Holly, I hope you manage to get out to the park this afternoon, I used to love people watching xx

Well the dogs have had a bath yesterday and their bedding has been washed so they are smelling lovely. I need to wash my blanket from the living room so I will get on with that before everyone gets up.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Grr and double Grr! I waffled on about nothing in particular and the post wouldn't send and then MSE shut down altogether, losing my post as it did so! Is it my lappie or has anyone else had trouble?

I won't waffle on again so have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care all xx

ps HOLLY I can just imagine your SIL's reaction as I remember she wasn't happy when he went to Uni in the first place and he didn't want her staying nearby for the w/e so she could spend time with him.

Yesterday the weather was lovely again so managed some time in the garden, I find there's something quite satisfying about using the weed burner.

Morning all! Up seriously early for me, OH was in work early today, so of course I wake up..Walked to the opticians on Saturday, had to sit down and get my puff back for five minutes when I got there which just tells you how out of stamina I am, [it's not far, normally I'd walk it in less than five minutes] so I've resolved to walk around the block every day to build up my stamina a bit.
Got my phone back last night, I was quite happy without it to be honest, didn't spend ages looking at funny videos...
Today am out to meet a friend from ex-work, first time in over a year, she was always a little bit angry before [can understand why, she lost a couple of people in close succession ] so we'll see how she is today.
I am also planning a quick tidy, WM is on, looks like it might be sunny so I may try the washing line for the first time this year.

Gers, would a historical society like the papers? It's modern history [for the moment anyway!?!] AOD, look after yoursef. TA, impressed with the garden clean up, I'd love to be doing mine, enjoy sitting in it! Nelski, I don't want to tell tales but a few people seem to be co-opting your liver intake, maybe that's why you're not sleeping....hope it goes well today.
SO, you're on a roll, I'm jealous of garden playing. Holly, I was wonderingif the nephew had done that on purpose, and after TA's remark, I am beginning to see why :) whereabouts in Spain will he be?
Right.Wotcha absent people, hope you're all tolerably well.
    Magnificent Monday!!
