Happy Birthday Scarletribbons (you are only as old as you feel!)0

A progress report on the garden. I gave myself a target for today and vowed to stick with it and do no more! A lesson in pacing myself! The sun was already on the back garden by 10.00 a.m. so out I went. I know on paper it would seem to make more sense getting the fence done first but in reality it's not that simple! With things as they were last summer and into autumn the garden was bottom of my list of priorities and it was just left. Nothing got cut back, no pots got emptied, no weeding got done and the falling down fence just got left to mingle in with the overgrown shrubs and climbers. So this morning was spent just cutting back, pruning and digging up! With the sun shining down on me I quite enjoyed myself and I kept plonking on the bench for a breather every now and then.
It's looking so much better already and between yesterday's front garden session and this morning's efforts I have managed to fill the garden wheelie bin! It's a good job DS took the hedge cuttings to the tip when he had done it last Sunday as that lot would have filled the wheelie before I even got started!
I had no luck with a Roger. I had recommendations for landscape gardeners and the like but I only really wanted a sort of odd job man !!! garden tidy upper. Once the garden is sorted I can keep up to it myself as it's (allegedly!) pretty low maintenance in that we got rid of the lawns back and front and replaced with pebbles and slate chippings quite a few years ago. So no grass cutting to be done!
In a little while I am going to follow SR's lead and swill the patio and back paths with a washing liquid solution, leave on overnight and assess it in the morning. DD's jet washer is in the garage (she has nowhere to keep it) so I might then give it a go with that.
Right lunch break over, back to it and the sun is still shining! xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Well done TA - it's a good start!
I've spent a good part of the morning reading through the four folders of papers which my DM gave me to burn. They all relate to the property management of her flat - in Scotland there is a factor for each building which (normally) has eight flats and so eight owner occupiers. The reading was a fascinating insight to all the repairs and improvements made from the repair of a downpipe to the fabrication of new metal railings and all stops inbetween. No time to burn it all today now as it needs to be crumpled up first.
My lovely neighbour called in on his way home from tree felling, he got revived by a hot sweet coffee. He also managed to sort out the whirly drier in the new garden which I just couldn't get fixed up. Even he struggled to get it fixed in the open position so at least I wasn't being a wimp. Of course, I had to christen it as the wind is blowing hard and the rain seems to have passed through. First outside drying since the autumn.
Daffs are bursting out all over, snowdrops are drooping and the weeds are keen to shoot up, it'll soon be time to do some serious spraying. Not today! I have to buy some rosemary plants for one of the long borders, my lovely neighbour is a chef by training and always needs lots, where he lives with his family up the hill just can't grow it. I'm happy to help.0 -

Thank you very much everyone for the birthday wishes, very kind of you all.
It's been a lovely family day, with even a phone call from Oz!! and there was cake Gers!
We've just come in from a pub meal, the family have gone, and we are sitting in our tip of a house, it'll all get done though. I started to tidy up this morning but a couple of friends came round, and before I knew it the family were here.
TA, sounds as if you've done really well in the garden. Hope the patio comes up well.
