Often a dealer will pre-reg 15-20, maybe 50 of an otherwise identical car. Its not unusual for them to take a quarter or longer to sell them all.
Yes, when my wife wanted a Yaris, one dealer on autotrader had a 3-month old pre-reg at a very competitive price. When I rang them up, the advertised pre-reg had sold, but they had another 20 all registered on the same date. We got a great deal.

Autotrader lists 492 cars registered in 2018, with less than 100 miles.

    ... and 35 from 2017.

    ... and 18 from 2016 !

(OK, so some of those will have been wrongly listed by dealers who haven't actually put the mileage in correctly - but there can be some very old pre-regs out there)

    eg. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201910243657684

Thats an RS though. Clearly bought by someone as an "investment".

Sure. But it was the only one I'd buy in a sea of pre-reg Citroens and Fiat 500s!

Yeah i think a lot of dealers just dont bother putting the miles in when uploading the ads, or the miles dont carry over when interfaced with the own sites.
