Lawn Maintenance
Options
Our lawn is full of moss - I mean, more moss than grass
Is it too early to use moss killer / feed - yet ?
Also - in the past - we used a lawn spreader to drop granules on to the grass - but this spreader "died" a few years ago.
Last year - we used hand held rotating spreader (that spins it everywhere) - are there any other options for spreading granules that work better ?

I wouldn't put anything on the lawn yet. There could/lilely to be a nasty cold snap and the moss killer/fertiliser will just sit there going to waste. Try and hold off till the end of March if you can. Spreaders are spreaders I spose...the handheld are the best i think...never liked the drop spreaders myself.

For both lawn feed and for grass seed, calculate the amount you require for the lawn size and measure out. I use an old cadbury mini rolls tub for this. Then spread by hand in two or four directions.0 -
Anything with a feed included its too early. New shoots are something like 80% water, and a frost will split them open harming the grass. That's why they always say April - September on the packs.
A mosskiller on its own will be fine if you can find one, but less effective and the grass wont grow as quickly to fill the gaps.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -
Consider embracing it a moss lawn looks stunning, great for the environment and low maintenance.0

Our lawn is full of moss - I mean, more moss than grassAnd in a few centuries - we will be able to harvest peat !
No thanks - I prefer grass
Unless you sort out the reasons why the moss is growing so well, you are fighting an endless battle.
Is the drainage under the lawn very poor?
Is the lawn in shade for much of the day?
Do you cut the grass too low?
Do you keep the grass well fed?0 -
