Agreed! The replies are embarrassing.
I believe all decent people should be permitted to live together regardless of race, without boundaries.
I don't mind paying a higher price for trades as long as they actually turn up. My experience of the english is that they're unwilling to do trades, and when they do, they take long breaks & go home early. Since the vote, the gap in trades has worsened but the British don't seem willing or able to fill the gap- at any price. This is likely different in different areas, but certainly prevalent in parts of London.
Is it laid bare or bear? Because earlier I was told bare is to be naked.
You do realise that some of these 'cheap' (eastern european) tradesmen might not be working to british standards or building regulations? of course this also applies to british cowboys pretending to be qualified. its a minefield.0 -
Thanks! One would think I'm good a facebook since I'm good with computers.. but I'm not!! How do you go about finding a local facebook neighbour group in facebook? Do I type in my postcode to the search bar or..
Just type your town/village name into the Facebook 'Search' bar and it should come up with some groups. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -

You do realise that some of these 'cheap' (british) tradesmen might not be working to british standards or building regulations? Of course many 'eastern europeans' charge the same or more than british, do a full 8 hours work a day, a much better job, and far exceed 'british standards'.
I wonder if he gets my point.0 -

This exactly, although the majority of leavers probably can't afford to employ a cleaner and have to do it themselves SHOCK HORROR. First world problems, no wonder the country is going down the pan.
SHOCK HORROR. A leaver who presumes just because he or she can't afford a cleaner financially means no one deserves it. Third world problems. No wonder the country is going down the pan. You see- the presumptious attitude can works both ways0 -

Just because someone may support remain doesn't mean they automatically want a cheap cleaner! Re-read the op and you'll see it says paying £17 an hour at present for a cleaner who doesn't speak English. If you think £17 per hour for a cleaner in 2019 is cheap, then I think everyone here would love to know your logic behind that.
I suppose you think being non-british means charging less & not doing as good a job too, or that anyone who wants a builder is a millionaire or people with a university education are arrogant snobs? Your presumptions in your post are so hypocritical:rotfl:0 -
Why is it racist to talk of language barriers? If you employ someone for any job it is better if they are competent at the job and can communicate with you. I'm sure if I went to Spain, for example, I would be next to useless in many jobs whatever my other skills as I speak about 27 words of Spanish.
Thanku giraffe69, I agree with you. Some of these opportunistic politically correct seem to take any chance to insult, and they do so even if it means twisting what someone said to match their rhetoric.0 -

My cleaner came via recommendation. He is Polish and has been with us for over 4 years. He always comes with an assistant, but they very rarely speak good English. He tells them what to do. I say thank you in Polish. A lot
Twice we had an English cleaner, they gave up on us quite quickly.
My friends live in Clapham and their cleaners rarely speak good English. Language barrier doesn't particularly matter if they know how to clean.
I see people starting up little cleaning businesses on local Facebook groups, but you don't know what you're getting until you've tried them.
Agreed! Thanks Doozergirl for the info & informative post. I know many people who have had the same experience with english trades, in the same area. Hopefully others here can end their tirade & focus on the question in the op.0
