Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

  • Have been on the phone to EDF and they went through with me a list of usage within the house and came to a figure of 3765 kWh. Really think that our meter could be at fault again here. Just trying to find out how much it would cost to pay if an engineer came and the meter was fine. Sorry I meant ft3 for gas. The meter is above the tumble dryer, so I had that in my head. Sorry about the confusion haha

For the time being you need to ignore anything the energy co are saying, again all they are doing is guessing. You need to start reading the meters, daily at first then weekly then monthly to see how much is actually being used. You also need to check which register is day and which is night on the E7 meter, check a few times during the day to see which number is increasing at certain times of the day. Are there any bills laying around so you can check for actual reads ? The problem you have when switching suppliers is you currently don't honestly know how much energy is being used, the quotes an direct debit is based on that guesstimate.

So the day meter reading is 44186.
Checked an hour ago and it was 44183.
    The night reading is 13893.

2nd to 17th of November 2018 bills read:
    Day: 42205
    Night: 13340

31st Aug to to 19th September 2018 bills read:
    Day: 41168
    Night: 13015

    22nd September 2017 to 06th June 2018 bills read:
    Day: 34364
    Night: 10857

Yeah, i've decided not to switch companies until we find out the reason why the usage is so high. I've arranged for a energy adviser to come round, and then we take a look and see if our actual usage matches that of the 9000kWh we are currently using.

Create a spreadsheet and read the meter each day around the same time. Do it for night and day rates. And do it every day until you understand your usage.

Are the readings you have given shown on the bill with a C or an A against them? Are all the meter readings you have given the ones shown as the Previous reading (ie they relate to the start of the billing period) ?

There is some suggestion that the consumption for 2018/19 is less than 2017.18, but the information is incomplete.
