Anyone else think that any "targets" either real or proposed, will start rapidly moving further away in time once it's realised that the infrastructure for a mass changeover to electric cars ain't going to be in place by whenever they fondly believe it's going to be?
  • As long as the car you are buying is fitted with an Euro 6 spec exhaust you should be OK, these are the most environmental friendly versions to date, anything other than Euro 6 (5,4) you could see charges made in town centres and entering in London. By 2020 they want all/most dirty diesels outlawed from an town centre or city.

The Gov aim (key word) aim to have all Petrol and Diesels banned by/from manufacturing by 2040 and everyone using either public transport or electric and hydro cars.

In my opinion, your good to go with a diesel for a while yet so go and get your dream car I say. It will be a few years yet before anything really is noticed and much later again before its necessary to review your position and choice of car.

I cant find the report, which is a shame. I also sold my diesel as well. If it is really 2040 and not 2020 can I get compensation? I feel so sad over all of this, sometimes I cant sleep, someone should give me money to make me happy again :o

Even if the policy was about 2020, and not 2040. It’s to ban the sale of NEW diesel cars not a ban on owning an existing car.

I think there is a possibility that Owen was being a tad facetious.

All new cars in the UK will be "effectively zero emission" by 2040, under plans to tackle air pollution.
The government is under pressure to bring forward this deadline and ban all sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2032, after a report by a parliamentary committee described its plans as "vague and unambitious".

I would buy a new diesel, if I could afford one. Its all in the future, like has been said, they can say anything they want, its meaningless.
Vehicles can get 'cleaner' all the time, will we have EURO 7 next?
Quite likely, they will get cleaner, but EURO 6 is very clean compared to Euro 1

Traded my shiny Merc for hybrid when the Gov told me diesel engines were a surgery and outlawed by 2020. Least that's what I thought I heard. My my son is looking at a shiny Mercedes diesel and I'm looking for the info again and can't find anything about it
    So
