Anyone point me to gov policy on diesel engines?

Traded my shiny Merc for hybrid when the Gov told me diesel engines were a surgery and outlawed by 2020. Least that's what I thought I heard. My my son is looking at a shiny Mercedes diesel and I'm looking for the info again and can't find anything about it
So

    "diesel engines were a surgery"

Didn't that make you wonder if you'd mis-heard?

I think a big part of the problem is the government dont have a policy on diesels....
  • Ask Chris Grayling. He's the most competent minister they have, judging by the different jobs he gets given. Now he's in Transport he will know all about his policy on diesel. After all, he did a great job awarding a multi-million pound contract to a shipping company with no ships and terms and conditions lifted from a pizza takeaway business. Did a great job on airport drones, east coast rail and justice, too.

It'll be something like: "There will not be no old new diesel-engined vehicles sold or leased until the thirtieth of February twenty-eleventy-two. The cost of your deisel will rise by 2% above inflation every year despite not being able to get a seat in your own car. Please check your order upon deliver."

There is no particular policy for punishing diesel owners primarily because it would stuff UK haulage and transport which the economy heavily relies on. The only thing to be concerned about is Ultra Low Emission Zones, currently just in London, so you want to be considering Euro 6 diesels if you live in or are likely to travel into one of these zones in the future.

The government made a policy it knew it has a snails chance at the Grand National that it would have to actually implement it. At the same time it can say it is doing something.

    That's easy, there isn't one.

However, some are expecting a measure of anti-diesel legislation at some point - even if it is just increasing the excise duty on it and making it more expensive at the pump. I have just given up my company car (the tax burden dictates that it is no longer economical) and I bought a car with a petrol engine. The uncertainty in respect of future diesel legislation was a small factor in my decision but mainly I went for petrol because I prefer them.

    gov policy on diesel engine

The only pointing I would suggest is licking your finger and pointing straight upwards.

I cant find the report, which is a shame. I also sold my diesel as well. If it is really 2040 and not 2020 can I get compensation? I feel so sad over all of this, sometimes I cant sleep, someone should give me money to make me happy again :o
