Will I Be Saving Much Money ?
Hi Guys.
Moved into my new place last month and the bill came to £125, and had used up 839 units.
We figured out how to timer the heaters and the hot water in the hope the bill will come down.
This month we have used about 722 units. Will we be saving much money ?
So first month used up 839 units. second month used up 722
thanks

Hi,
need to know the day/night usage.0 -
First Month
380 day
459 night
= 839
This Month
301 day
421 night
= 7220 -
Any actions you take which reduce your kWh consumption leads to a saving. Depending on whether you reduce your day or night units the value will vary, but 117 units might have added about £18 to your bill. But this saving might only occur during winter months if they are linked to your heating. So perhaps £100 over a year if you keep them up.
Suggest you start keeping a record of monthly day and night units so you can track your consumption through the year, and subsequently compare next years readings with this year.0 -
Hi,
so you've saved:
Day 79 units @ 19.1572 = £15.13p
Night 38 units @ 9.449 = £3.59p
and 0.94p vat, total, £19.66p.
Standing charge will vary give or take a day.0 -

Hi. Thank you very much for that
Yes I keep my meter readings twice a month.
So the bill will be about £100 then. Which is still extortionate for an apartment, right ?0 -
Hi,
you've done well in reducing your day usage, though the day/night ratio should be about 20-25/80-75% at this time of year if you are using your heaters properly.0 -
Not with leccy heating - its ~ 3X as much as the equivalent for gas.0

Thanks guys.
I can only contribute it down to the fact that; Im at home most the day, its winter, and im electric only.0 -
The consumption is not extortionate for the coldest month of winter, and your April - September bills will be much less. Electricity is more costly than gas for heating and hot water which is why the settings of timers and thermostats is important. You seem to know that reducing consumption, or using off peak rather than peak rate is beneficial, and after that seeing that you are on a good tariff.0
