Did you know... You could be fined for indirectly fly tipping?

Options
I'm surprised at how many people didn't know that if you hire a man in a van to collect something from their property, e.g. a mattress or fridge and that service doesn't dispose of it correctly that the customer can also be fined for using that service?

What's disturbing is that some people didn't seem to care that their old property might have been fly-tipped. I guess out of sight, out of mind. Though I'm sure they'd care if something was fly-tipped in their local area. :(

Waste carriers licence means nothing DOC cert is the legal requirement, Fly tipping has become a rural plague and its made easier by the general publics ignorance or lack of care over what happens to there rubbish...… It costs someone in the end if not the landowner then LA, Its all money that if spent on clearing others crap isn't spent on more essential services....

The local facebook groups are forever filled with people reporting fly tipping and the upset it causes, and also people seeking out people that will do "tip runs". Can't have it both ways!

Only for waste produced by businesses.

Householders must check that anyone who takes waste from their premises is a Licensed Waste Carrier. Householders in England can check this on line using the Environment Agency register.

    https://environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/view/search-waste-carriers-brokers

This includes waste produced by and transported by people working at your home, including builders, gardeners, plumbers, handymen, etc

Waste Transfer Notes must be produced by businesses passing their commercial waste to a licensed waste carrier.

There is no need for the cowboys. I believe, for £154 the licence last 3 years, but that is just for the upper tier licence, no big deal.

Registration is usually free if you only transport waste you produce yourself. Otherwise, registration costs £154

The cost of the license is irrelevant. Licensed waste carriers are paying more than £100 a tonne to dispose of your waste at a licenced facility. The cowboys are dumping it in fields, lay-bys, housing estates etc.

Its too easy for cowboys to buy an old van and advertise on facebook easy money for them to fleece a homeowner and flytip.
There has been a clampdown and prosecutions in recent months were I live. People just want a cheap job but some learn the hard way !
