BT or Sky ?

Had fibre broadband with Zen since the cabinet went to FTTC with no problems at all, getting 67mbps at the router but I see everywhere that there is cheaper deals as I am currently paying £46.99/month
I have looked at Sky (who I have TV with) and they are offering 63mbps average speed for £25 (in my offers) and BT but the BT deal is £39.99 for what looks like the same package as Sky.
I am worried that if I change provider the speed could decrease or have other issues which I have read about on this forum, I am only looking to change to cut my monthly bill
any advice or recommendations please ?

Zen you pay more for it because you get better customer care. The cheaper deals throw you back into the bear ring with everybody else so to speak.

All providers well below your current price point will offer the fastest speed your line will support, complaints about providers are normal on consumer forums like these but there are also good experiences to find.

There's no guarantee that your speed will stay the same or that the connection will be as reliable, but realistically there shouldn't be much of a difference if you choose Sky or BT compared to Zen. You are still using the same telephone line and equipment in the exchange after all.

What will change is the level of customer support you get if anything goes wrong... that's what you are paying the extra to Zen for. It's up to you whether you think its worth it or not.

I previously have had issues with standard broadband, but I think fibre is generally more stable (someone more knowledgeable please correct me if I'm wrong), though you can still have congestion issues causing slower speeds at times. Having previously been a BT broadband customer many years ago I swore I'd never return, but fibre with BT has been all but completely trouble free for me. Its dealing with customer support when its time to renew that in't much fun!
  • right so thats quite a price to pay for customer service that I have never used !!

As mac.d points out the customer service element your paying for is it's there should you need it, The fact you haven't had to use it perhaps proves the point of good service. We pay for lots of service elements throughout life we seldom or never use, insurance for instance, but your glad it's there when needed.
