Change of use holiday let to annex

Hi,
We are looking to buy a property for our family that also has separate accommodation for both sets of parents - sort of a family community! obviously this is proving quite difficult (as essentially we need a total of 4 properties - one set of parents are amicably divorced). We have found a property that has a residential house with 3 holiday lets in the ground which would be perfect. I’m just wondering if anyone has any advice on how likely it would be that we would get planning permission to change the usage to residential? The holiday lets would effectively become annexes for our parents to live in and under the same address/deeds so not ‘separate’ properties and not to sell on (the idea being we can care for them when they get more elderly). And no rental income so they would not be money earning.
We haven’t had much luck finding any advice online so if anyone has any ideas/advice/anecdotes that would be really helpful.
Thank you

If the holiday lets gained their original planning by being holiday accommodation, it's very unlikely the local authority will wish to grant them permanent residence status.
In an area that caters for holidaymakers, it's regarded as undesirable for accommodation stock to be lost in this way.
However, the main reason for a reluctance to change matters, is simply that these were never intended as full time homes, so full-time residents with their extra needs, putting more pressure on local services, weren't planned-for.
Edited to add: Are these conventionally built structures, prefabicated buildings, or what?0 -
you may be able to change them to rental properties, and then charge a token rent0

As above, if there were good planning reasons for their use to be restricted to holiday homes then it's likely those reasons still apply. You probably need to check what the current local policies are.0

Thanks all.
The current holiday lets are all converted from former outbuildings so solid structures.
We live in Cornwall so yes the holiday accommodation issue may be an issue I guess. We are waiting to find out what the restrictions on these specifically are, if it’s a case of limited months (which we could probably get around through holidays, living in the main house etc) or more stricter max 28 days to one person etc.
It’s just proving so hard to find properties that suit multi family living!0 -
The easiest way to find out would be to ask the relevant planning authority about their policy on converting holiday lets to permanent living accom.
The only other alternative would be to look for a very large house which could be converted into self contained flats. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
