Anon Cheque

Hello all,

I recieved a cheque through the post today for £4000.

I have not got a clue what its for but its got my name on it and it is an HSBC cheque.

This is serious.

What do you suggest?

Cheers

    From a company/individual?
We all evolve - get on with it
  • I would look into it before cashing it. Could be a scam.

    Hi.
it must say somewhere on it who it is from; if it is HSBC it could be someone has applied for a loan in your name or something like that...best investigate. If there is an name/address on it, google it and see if anything comes up.
  • Let me guess... someone has 'overpaid' you for something and wants you to send them the difference.

Perhaps they forgot to give you the actual details of the scam, just sent the dodgy cheque :D (Google 'advance fee fraud')

(I wouldn't waste your time banking it until you know who and where it's come from)
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

    Hi,

I'm moving this thread to current accounts board where you will be more likely to receive suitable responses.
  • I'd contact HSBC and ask them about it. They should know if it is a genuine cheque
  • Hi again.

All it says is pro-activ publications. I have looked into it but cant really find much wrong.

These appear to be pro-activ's details

It looks as though they publish magazines for the security industry. They are mentioned on a lot of websites and appear at first quick glance to be legit. Best thing at this stage would seem to be to give them a call and ask what the cheque is for.
  • Hello Bossyboots.

Cheers for that info, I have looked at this on the internet and found the same as you.

I have spoke the bank and after ten days they can't do anything about it. Cheque cashed yesterday. Fingers crossed.

  • Nice bonus if it cashes without problems! lol
I may be shy, but that doesn't make me an angel ;)
