Doshwaster,
I spoke to Egg yesterday on this topic. The man told me I could open a second Egg account which would pay 3.35%, but I couldn't just transfer money from my existing old (1.25%) account. However, he said I could open the new account with a £1 deposit from a non-Egg account, and then transfer savings from the old to the new one. I did this today with no problems, and I have named the new one My 2009 Account to remind me to do the same next year.0 -
I went into my local Natwest branch to enquire about this on Monday 9/3/2009. As I sat with the adviser, she said that she had just received an email informing her that this account was to be closed to new business on Tuesday - the next day! :mad:0

Have a look at these if you need instant access to your savings, although i would recommend trying to use your ISA allowance (£3600 per year in a Cash ISA, £3600 in a S&S ISA) for the tax free benefits that it can give you longer term if you end up not needing the money. You can withdraw from a Cash ISA easily as long as you dont fix the rate.

Hi ya Lewis_Gerolemou,
Just wondering The 3.5% is that definitely for 12 months as I just got it but it was only for 6 months they offered me as I came from Kaupthing Edge as a special offer?
For anyone interested ICICI savings rate looks like it's dropping to 2.45% on Monday the 9th..

The bonus of 1.96% is fixed for one year but the headline rate of 3.5% is variable. Accounts opened before March 13th got a £20 bonus credited to the account. I was asked to quote ING380 when applying.0
