I opened an account with ICICI and their service is appalling. I tried to change details of my account with them via email and they said I had to call their call centre. So I called them and the person I .

I agree - difficult to get through to anyone and when you do
it's a lot like speaking to an Indian robot.

    Very willing but non-comprehending... .......

The good point is that they willingly close your account with out any fuss, which is more than I can say for the Post Office which took 4 phone calls, 1hr20m of talking and 10 'working days' to transfer my money.
  • The savings accounts that I have found to be annoying are:

ICICI - comprehension dificulties. Seems very remote in the way that it operates - you can't find it's phone contacts without a search of the website for instance.

    Post Office - Slow beyond.

takes 10 working days to accomplish transfer task.
If you ask them why it isn't in their T&C's they say they don't have to say how long transfers take (which is true) but I wish they had been upfront about it.

Icesave - you must put something in straight away or they close it and you have to open up a new one... so if you are expecting a cash sum, be careful that the account is still open.
  • I have been trying to set up a Hi-Save account with ICICI for months. They require standard documentation regarding identity etc which has to be countersigned. Despite my local bank manager countersigning my passport copy and bank statement in my presence and recording her contact telephone number ICICI insist the full contact information is not there and yet have failed to respond to my subsequent emails and my requests to return the submitted documentation to me for clarification. After Martin's strong recommendations this has been disappointing and I have given up on the application.
  • I'm currently in the process of opening an ICICI HiSave account. Filled in online, took 5 minutes. Got email straight away saying processing. Got email day after saying I was approved and gave details of sending opening amount chq off, very clear instructions.

    So far...so good.

However have read that someone here on this forum paid in a chq from a joint account into the ICICI account in her name only and it wasn't accepted. I'm doing the same so hoping this isn't the case as the t&c's don't forbid that.

    16. I want to open a single HiSAVE Savings Account but I have a joint current account. Can I link a joint current account with the HiSAVE Savings Account? Can I send a cheque from the joint current account to open a single HiSAVE Savings Account?

You will not be able to link a joint current account to your single HiSAVE account.
    FAQ's

Looks like you will need a current account of your own or open a joint account HiSave.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

  • Thanks Tradetime. Damn I read the T&c's which really is ambiguous reading it back, but not the FAQ's. Opps serves me right, lesson learnt. Thanks at least you got me before I sent the chq off. Thx.
  • ICICI, one of those 'Marmite' accounts that you love or hate... I am sorry to say that I wasted a lot of time trying to open an account so I could get one of the fixed rate 'bonds'.

Despite many phone conversations and much documentation sent to them, they just don't seem to want my money.... I paid to have a solicitor make some certified copies of some documents but they rejected those, (with REJECTED written all over them so its not like I can use them to open another account with another bank) I sent originals but they said that they were not good enough, they wanted certified copies of those original doc's NOT the originals!

Some people are very happy with the way their accounts were opened, It all seemed very incompetent in my opinion.

Hi, Im knew to this site and have found the info great, but my brain is now overloaded so was hoping for some opinions.
I currently have an Isa which has been used up, and an existing members account which I can out £1000 a year which is also used up. My dad has given me £2500 which we will be using in the next few months for a conservatory, but need to out it in an account in meantime. So after reading through the instant access account advice - I thought Id use the YBS Internet account - 6.00% gross aer yearly or 5.84% gross aer monthly.
Is this a wise move? Will need the money soon - so will transfer money via interent to current account elsewhere and pay builders by cheque etc.

Also do I ask for the interest yearly or monthly? After we use up the £2500 in next 3 months, I will then save up to limit in ISA then use this account for about £250 a month and wont touch it untill I need to pay my tax (self-employed)

I hope this makes sense! Am I using the right account, and should I get the interest monthly or annually basically?
  • THey won't take a cheque from your mother - it has to be from the linked account in your name, and what's more, if you're applying for an account in your name but your linked account is a joint one, they won't take that either, which kills it for me...
What good's the sky when you have no days to watch it by?
