is the egg money credit card a good bet? it pays 4% on all positive balances which is pretty amazing. It's also protected under fsa rules apparently.

    Nice thinking

I have a Yorkshire Bank Regular Saver that I have had for a while now - how do I find out the current interest rate on it, a I am not sure it is the same as the current product on their website (ie they have various 'issues' of saver depending on when taken out)

I opened this account today with the maximum £250 per month. What I liked was that you could have a bad month, reduce your standing order to £20 (minimum and still retain your 6% - any lower and it will be just over 3%.

And with the 6% fixed rate , it's the best I could find.

First find out the exact product name of your account. Then go to the Yorkshire site. Click on Savings tab. Then on Interest rates link in green 4th line down. Near the bottom of that page under heading "Accounts no longer available" or Available accounts whatever find your account. That's it.
Oh if you don't know your product name then log in to your account, if it does not tell you the name there then you can always contact them by email.

Tesco droppped to 2.5%, today - excluding bonus. Had to happen.
  • Has anybody else had trouble getting into any of their Tesco savings accounts? I have two accounts with them and have been unable to access either. I have been putting in the correct information to access my accounts, but something is going wrong with their site as I am then told the info is wrong and I am locked out. Then one has to go through security checks via snail mail. Your'e given new codes, so you try again, and the same thing happens, it's like being in a loop. I only want to transfer money from one account to the other, but perhaps they are afraid I'm going to take it out! It's all very frustrating.

Yes, I had been noticing some issues, too. On this page (which should look something like TescoLoginPage.png), on the right under the heading "accessible to all our customers", click the link to "set accessibility preferences", then click both the "yes" radio buttons on the page that appears and save the preferences.

This should then stop the page using any non-standard javascript etc. etc. and the site should behave better. I've not had a problem since changing the accessibility prefs (in addition to your problem, I also had issues whereby I'd enter my pass/pin details, click the login link, and then I'd be told I was being automatically logged out as there had been "10 minutes of inactivity"!)
  • Thanks for that Mr. H. I was putting in my correct customer number but the next page was telling me that it was wrong and I was being locked out, it meant that I could not access my other account either. I will try setting my preferences when I get my new codes. I have found that '10mins of inactivity' occurs on far too many sites, when one has been continuously active. GRRRRR.

Prob would not work. The reason they want the cheque in your name is part of the fraud prevention/ID checking process. A personal cheque proves you already have a bank account in your name. It's an increasing problem. Call ICICI and explain. Be interested to hear how they respond.

Am I right in thinking that often the bonuses are fixed, but the interes rate is variable ie the Tesco Savings account. Therefore your at least garanteed the bonus rate?

Just been checking my Natwest E-ISA and the interest doesn't make sense. I got £40 more interest in December than in January and haven't made any withdrawls. Will be on the phone in the morning but am dreading it, as the staff are so unhelpful and don't appear knowledgeable about internet based accounts. Suggest anyone with these accounts checks them straightaway/
