i was just wondering as to why doesnt martin's guide mention Lloyds vantage account as it also offers 3% interest? yes it requires balance to be between 3k and 5k but many other accouts require minimum amounts and they are included!

Perhaps because Lloyds don't pay any affiliate fees. Santander do. BTW, there is also BoS, same offer as Lloyds.

Does that mean that we cant really rely on the top savings accounts listed on here as there could be another better one out there...

Well, the Vantage and 123 accounts aren't actually savings accounts. I do think that they should be mentioned in the savings account section as a "by the way..." but I guess they are trying to keep things simple and avoid confusing people. The vantage accounts in particular do have hoops you have to jump through to get the decent rates.

Hi, is there a top kids savings account thread, I can't find one. If not, can anyone recommend any decent building societies for the kids to save with. They are with Nationwide at the moment, and used to have a Smart Save account perks (e.g. discount on bowling, etc) - which apparently has come to an end although I didn't know that until today.

    Thanks

what "hoops" are you mentioning? The only so called "hoops" i am aware of are actually simple compared to the 123 account. with vantage there is no requirement for any direct debit or SO. no monthly fee. only requirement is minimum monthly funding, which is also required for 123 account.

MSE is not a comparison service, and even comparison services aren't reliably showing you everything that's in the market.

It's always worth to shop around, and sometimes it pays off to think outside the box, e.g. look at what interest rates current accounts pay.

Plenty of "children's savings" threads, if you search a little. From memory, Halifax, Lloyds and Virgin have the best interest rate accounts for kids.

The other threads also give you information about JISAs and other tax considerations.

To get best rates with Vantage, there's also the need to keep the balance between £3k and £5k.

No different to santander 123 which also has tiered interest rates!

    3% AER between £3k-£20k, 2% over £2k, 1% AER over £1k
