Pigeonpie - I had to do this last year. I'd screwed up my security details with an Indian bank. Couldn't get access to my account in any way. Had to send proof of address & original birth cert. Photocopies were validated by a branch (not my local one) of my bank. Was very easy & straightforward at the Information desk. They seemed quite used to the request. Anyway, it did the trick0

I got my nearest bank branch to make some certified photocopies for me a few months ago, which they did despite me not even having any accounts with them (Natwest).0

thanks, will try. Am with First Direct so maybe HSBC would be best! What a drama ;-)0

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but it would be useful to know whether each account accepts faster payments in and out. Given that I move my money around so frequently, it works out better for me to have a lower rate instant access account with FP than an instant access acount which relies solely on BACS.0

It's Gone! Damn! Missed that one.
Been out of the country since the back end of August, giving little or no thought to savings products! Just returned and 'reviewing' the savings situation online, found this one on a 'competing' site, only to discover on the WestBrom site that it's been withdrawn!
How long has it been available? From what I could see on the website it's only been around since the beginning of September...... is that right?0 -
It's Gone! Damn! Missed that one...
The Nottingham have got an esaver plus (issue 2) offering 3.20% AER.0 -
Details here:
http://www.thederbyshire.co.uk/Savings_Portfolio.aspx?id=3491
Gross p.a./AER including bonus 3.25%
Gross p.a./AER excluding bonus 1.00%
Net p.a. including bonus 2.60%
Interest rate is variable and where stated includes a fixed bonus of 2.25% gross p.a. paid until 30 November 2012.
Rate effective from 28 September. Increased rate applies to new and existing NetSaver customers. Existing Derbyshire NetSaver (Issue 1) customers will benefit from the increased interest rate automatically.

Two caveats with that 3.25% account:
1) Initial deposit is by cheque only (WHY do banks still do this?).
2) You can only make one withdrawal per day, which must be between £10 and £100,000.
Probably not big issues for most people but worth mentioning. The fact that I've never had a chequebook means I can't get it.0
