I'm considering the Santander eSaver issue 2 with 2.75% interest and a cash card for instant access (and unlimited withdrawals). I'm assuming that I can manage this account online and that I will be able to transfer money from this account into my NatWest current account. Can anybody confirm that I will be able to do this? I have £7k that I will need in 4 months. I have already used all my ISA allowance up and I'm looking for somewhere to put it until then. The unlimited withdrawals and cash card are the most attractive bit.

I think you are right. I phoned them and was eventually put through to someone who proceeded to ask me loads of questions about my personal circumstances and income etc. Way more hassle than I expected to open what I effectively wanted to use as a savings account. So I politely aborted the phone conversation.

I've just been through this hassle - i did stick with it for the sake of the extra 1%. Apparently you can open additional accounts on line if you've been a Lloyds customer for 3 months. Otherwise you have to speak to the new accounts team to open a new account and it is quite time consuming. And you can only do one every 24 hours so you have to ring again to open the third account. This is to make sure the account is 'suitable' for you apparently.

Opening in branch is probably the lowest hassle route if you can do 3 at the same time!

Oh and if you do open the first account on line, make a note of which branch you select as Lloyds regard this as an important security check. I hadn't noted which branch i'd ticked as i regarded it as totally irrelevant!

Looks like the new Northern Rock at 3% is the next best option.

    It's no longer available.
  • Family Saver, paying 3% Gross with easy access, does not require Child Benefit to be paid in as a condition of operating account although it would be a good place to put it.

So I am a little confused - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/savings-accounts-best-interest#bestbuys - seems to suggest that an account can only be opened if you have children under 16?

Their web site has changed recently and this is now on the family saver web page

    http://www.coventrybuildingsociety.co.uk/savings-and-investments/Easy-Access/Family-Saver/Family-Saver.aspx?tab=2

**If you lose your Child Benefit because of the proposals recently announced, or because you are no longer eligible due to the age of your children, you'll simply need to have a monthly standing order paid into your Family Saver account, for the equivalent amount of your Child Benefit payment.
It's worth remembering that if we don't receive your Child Benefit or standing order payment for two successive calendar months, your Family Saver account will be closed and the balance transferred to an alternative savings account.

Click on the 'We treat members equally logo' and you will see:-

    We treat members equally
All our accounts are available to new customers and existing customers on exactly the same terms.

So if they do not permit those not in receipt of child benefit, it's definitely not treating members equally.

That's not what they're saying, supremetwo.

They're saying that all accounts are available to new and existing customers on exactly the same terms.

So an existing customer in receipt of CB can have the account, as can a new customer in receipt of CB.

:rotfl:I think it is important to repost this here in the correct thread!:)
we signed up with the post office online saver as recommended on mse page, for some reason you have to send money across before you are sent an account no. Secondly we were transfering our money across via debit card. when we got to the end of the transaction a note came up saying that they were unable to accept payment at that time, please try again with a different card or payment means. so we tried again, same thing, and again, rang through to visa verified and to our bank, nothing wrong there, they said that the post office were not asking for the money to be transacted across to them. Finally after talking on the phone to someone who knew nothing, we got through to a person who explained that you can only make payment using a debit card to the maximum of £10000. There is nothing in the small writing - terms and conditions saying this, i know, i read all through them.
It then turns out that each of the transactions for each attempt had gone through, the fraud office put a stop on our card and this morning we received 4 letters with all the accounts we have 'opened'.

All it needed was for a alert to come up that the max by debit card was £10000 , instead of prompting us to try again with a different card or payment means. Instead we have all these accounts to now close.
UPDATE: we have now had the pin numbers through , with no way of knowing which one is for which account!!!!!!!

I'd very careful with Santander a lot of people seem to loose they money with them and sometimes for quite a number of months.
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring

Sorry in what ways do people lose money?
  • hello,

I just discovered that my Nat West e-saver account was only paying 0.80 % so I have just opened the Online Saver account with The Post Office which is offering just under 3% gross.

I wouldn't have realized had it not been for the MSE News, thanks for that!
