Looking for something for my Mum. She would rather deal with a big name and probably have access via a branch if necessary. What’s best at the moment? Think she’s getting peanuts with Barclays at the moment so anything will be an improvement. Ta

I would start at the top of this list and work your way down until you see something you recognise. You'll have to scroll a long way down before you find a (national) high-street bank. You will find some high-street building societies higher up but access is often limited with their higher-paying accounts, so bear that in mind if you don't want to be restricted to 2-3 withdrawals a year...

There is no better rate for easy access for a balance up to £5,000 than Barclays Rainy Day Saver at 5.00% gross (5.12% AER)

It does require 2 direct debits per month, a deposit of at least £800 per month and membership of Blue Rewards but as an existing customer it may be quite easy to do.

She should look at the Barclays Rainy Day Saver for a start.  5% on £5k.  You need a Barclays Current Account, deposit £800 a month, and have two DDs.  It's online only, but as she is already a Barclays customer it might suit her?

You may find the tables on the link below are easier to compare. This link is for easy access but there are also links to other tables, for example fixed rate, fixed term savings accounts.

I never knew.  I didn't look at anything below 3.25% in 2012.
