And the reason it can't be pro rata in the age of the computer is because of.........?Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?Why? So you can argue with them?0

it's just a tax on ownershipAnd the reason it can't be pro rata in the age of the computer is because of.........?It's a scam.
However without it we would have no public services, and no roads to drive on. Those roads we did have would be very poorly maintained. Oh, wait...

It would need to go through parliament as an amendment to the current legislation. It seems unlikely that anyone would see that as a priority.
But they can waste their time talking about eating dogs and cats and not sorting out brex!!!!! - they should get back to running the country.0 -

Frankly, the dog'd be better qualified to run the country.0 -
If the only options are to drive away without tax or to tax the vehicle twice - not a great system is it!?
Think I'm just venting at this stage - but I am going to complain and see where it goes.
You could wait until the next day to collect and then tax it.
If buying privately you could get the owner to drive it to your place on their tax and then keep it on your drive until the next day and tax it then. If it's taxed by them then it will show as taxed on any ANPR check and there is nothing on the V5 transfer that shows the time of sale so you could even drive it yourself.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Conversely, wouldn’t the seller get a months refund? Meaning two things;
Government are not better or worse off?
Seller swindled you.

I'd rather see a ban on eating dogs than worry about loosing a few pounds on double taxing every 10 years or so when I buy a car.
Mind you, I dareasy that the knock-on effect of persuading other countries to stop dog meat farming will simply see the dogs turned out, then subjected to the sort of cruelty that Romania is famous for.:(I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
