Tk Maxx pricing

Hi, I last month bought a piece of jewellery for my daughter from tkmaxx. On the label the RRP was £245. The tkmaxx price was £39.99. Today having inspected the item again I decided to research the brand of the jewellery and I found its own website. The range was extensive and I found some very similar items to the necklace I bought my daughter and the average price of these was between £29 and £70. In fact nothing on their website was priced at anywhere near £245. I feel like I have been misled into buying something that I believed was much more valuable and better quality than it actually is and at a far greater discounted price than it really was ( if at all discounted) it is just over 4 weeks so will I be able to ask for my money back on the basis that I feel I have been misled and hav eonky just found out. Are shops allowed to display fabricated RRPS to entice customers?

As you have found out, RRPs are meaningless and TKMaxx is far from the only store that does this.
You need to make your own judgements about value and quality from the price you are paying and inspecting the item, not from any discount you may or may not have got.

In terms of change of mind refunds, which is what this is, there is no obligation to refund and different stores have different policies.
If you bought in store then the following applies from their terms and conditions:

It is very easy to return something you have bought in store. Return your purchase to us in store within 28 days of purchase with a receipt as proof of purchase for a refund. Gift receipts can be used to return an item for an exchange or gift card but not for a refund.
Merchandise must be unused, have all tags attached and be in its original condition (including packaging and labelling). If you use the goods or remove or tamper with any of the tags attached to the goods, you will lose your right to return the goods under our returns policy.
Unless faulty, we are unable to offer an exchange or refund on pierced jewellery.

So is it within 28 days and still in the condition you bought it? If not then you're out of luck.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Well costume jewellery is worth, like many other things, exactly what you are prepared to pay for it.
You surely didn't think it was an investment?
I really can't believe you think price is an indication of quality..
  • No I didn’t think it was an investment. It was a gift for my daughter. And yes I was gullible. I was just disappointed to see virtually the same item on the website of the company involved at a lower price than what I had been led to believe was a very heavily discounted price at TK Maxx.
  • I bought it online from tkmaxx so couldn’t see the quality before I bought it.

You paid £39.99 which you were happy with. Why do you want a refund ? I hate TK Maxx, it's like a huge jumble sale. Their HomeSense shops are completely different though.

As you bought online your rights are slightly better but unfortunately you are past the cutoff point,

But you are correct, shops are not allowed to make up RRP's. TK maxx have been doing this for years, heres an article from 2013 about the very same problem

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2520488/Does-TK-Maxx-mislead-shoppers-discounts-designer-goods.html

If you want a refund, I would push the RRP being misleading, especially given the actual supplier was selling at £70. Hopefully they will just give in and allow a return.

    I'd quote this page:
    https://www.asa.org.uk/advice-online/recommended-retail-prices-rrp.html
which has lots of good info on whats allowed.

tkmaxx/amazon/debenhams/ebay/sports direct etc etc they all do it..... RRP means nothing
Would you buy a tracksuit from SD with 70% off down to £9.99.....of course you wouldn't,no offence but if you believe the RRP of tkmaxx you really need to change your username

If it was a gift for your daughter then maybe ask her if she wants to keep it or not.... You may find that, despite being "misled", she actually LIKES your gift and wants to keep i
  • Yes . It’s gold plated 925 sterling silver chain and it says on the TK Maxx online description it’s topaz pendant. But on the box it came in it says it’s aquamarin ( no e) + topaz it’s a small pendant, have my doubts it’s a real gemstone.
