Alphawoo is that comment directed at me? If so I have heard of google and use it on a very regular basis, and if you don't have anything constructive to say then keep your jibes to yourself, after all this is a tech forum for people who have questions and would like advice.

But it doesn't hurt for someone to actually engage their brain and try to help themselves instead of coming onto a forum to ask YET AGAIN the same question that's been asked and answered dozens of times.

    JZip

For other free programs for windows have a look here:
    http://www.freewaregenius.com/2007/10/29/reinstall-windows-and-outfit-your-system-with-all-freeware-programs/

It's all fine and well to say ignore the popup in winrar after 30 days and continue to use it but it is not freeware and you should pay for it after 30 days or get something free.

any one recommend a programme that will open these files for free? Thanks
They wanted a recommendation, not just a list of product names. I can't see anything wrong with someone posting here to get recent & relevant information from past or present users, who could also provide some info on any problems they may have had. I'm not digging at anyone in this thread, but so many people throw up Google as a solution & take more time making a sarcastic reply than it would take to just answer the question posed, or simply ignore the post altogether.

They're surprised at people not using Google as much as they think they should. I'm surprised at their clearly extensive usage of Google not apparently introducing them to the words "manners" & "patience".
  • Programmes like winrar are called nagware because they run fine, just nag you to buy it, there are lots out there.
There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...
  • if you did use google you would of saved yourself time. connor your right people do need to stop bieng spoon fed. why would you post a question which could be solved with one google search.
  • I think 100% of the questions in this Techie section can be solved by searching google and the like, I just guess there are some of us who like giving advice and others who like taking it.

    You tell 'em.

I've switched from WinRar to JZip because I had exceeded the trial period for WinRar. The only thing that is missing from JZip is the ability to create rar files but thats fine for me because I found if I did that then otehr people couldn't open them. So I just use it to extract rar files and create zip files. Does everything I need it to.

You can call it anything you like but the End User License Agreement which you agree to by installing winrar states:
Anyone may use this software during a test period of 40 days. Following this test period of 40 days or less, if you wish to continue to use WinRAR, you must purchase a license.

Hence if you continue to use i you are doing so without a license even though it continues to work.
