Aqua Credit Card

This is unrelated but as this thread is talking about credit scores (which I know are fictional by the way) my credit score has just crashed from 521 to 456 :eek:just because I chose to pay my water bill late. I never pay it on time just out of principle as I believe I am ripped off on the cost of water BUT the surprise was not just because it crashed but because I've paid water bill late for years with no alteration to score/file, looks like things have changed a little, oh and just to add, stuff united utilities I'll still carry on paying them my way0

It's only a drop of 12% - is that a crash?
Perhaps United Utilities just got fed up of always getting their money late and decided to give you a jolt - or, maybe, it has nothing to do with your water bill.
As a matter of interest, do you find you gain anything by paying your water bill late - apart from the feeling of 'sticking it to the man' - because it doesn't really help you by doing it (unless cash-flow is an issue) you still end up paying it?
I wonder, if they got their money on time from all users, would that improve their cash-flow and reduce their overheads? If so, they might be able to reduce their costs - although, they'd probably just see it as increased profits instead!
You get a discount for Direct Debit too.0 -

Yeah I suppose 12% is nothing in the grand scheme, mind you I don't take any notice of the score it just stares me in the face every time I log on to Clearscore.
I know it definitely is UU that has caused my imaginary score to drop as my report tells me so (negative marker put on by them), no other problems with report that I can see, I agree there's no real benefit to me paying late (cash flow is not a problem at all) I just begrudge paying their rates, at least with energy I can swap supplier, water I'm screwed like everyone else!!
I think its wishful thinking to assume they would drop prices if everybody paid on time but I'd like to think the same.
Sadly I think your 'more profit' theory is much more accurate0 -
If your drop in score is down to your water company making your payment as late to the CRA's (best to double check this and review your reports.... I wouldnt continue to do this from now on otherwise you will see a "crash" in your "score" due to multiple lates.
It seems like setting up a DD is a win/win.0 -

They don't need to set up a direct debit, they just need to pay on time.0 -

As I said I know it's UU that have put the late marker on my file (I check report every month) and I agree I should pay them on time, just don't like the company.
I cant see any crash in my score coming any time soon due to 'multiple' late payments I only get 2 bills a year from them.0 -
I never received a confirmation email, however my card arrived after 20 days.0

Unfortunately you not liking the company and paying late to make yourself feel better is harming you and not the water company. I doubt they care that you pay your little bill late in the grand scheme of things0

Out of interest does anyone know the "formula" so to speak that your credit scores sees an increase/decrease through using a credit card.
Use it on a Monday or Wednesday, and only before 2pm, except for every third Monday when you need to use it after 3pm. Divide the number of times you use it by Pi and multiple by the number of Unicorns you have seen that day. Should give you a rough idea of your score.
PS - Never using during a waxing moon (unless you are with a leprechaun)0
