Any last things to try before writing it off?? It will connect to the wifi network but with no internet access...tried all I can think of including factory reset but no joy. I'm a Windows-type so not as up an Android as I probably should be. Android 6 if it helps...

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    Reboot the wifi router?
Check that the tablet and router are both on the same wifi channel?
Disable any automatic channel-switching on the wifi router?
  • You say 'no internet access', is that just with the browser or does it affect the Play Store too? If just the browser try a different browser from the Store (Firefox perhaps) and see if that works, if it does uninstall Google Chrome (presuming you were using that) and then download again from the Store (or continue with Firefox).

It's definitely at the network card level, not other software/apps, and have been through all the usual network troubleshooting steps. The factory reset didn't work either....

  • Have you checked to see what the router thinks it is and perhaps give it a static IP ?

Have you changed router recently? I had a similar problem with an older laptop which would not get internet access through a new Plusnet router.

I have trouble with a tablet connecting to the 5Ghz band, renamed them and connected to the 2.4Ghz with no problems (as you can't select which band the Android tablet will connect to if the channels are named the same)

I'd try connecting to a different wi-fi access point to rule out any problems with your router.

If the device is rooted, you could install a terminal emulator and maybe play around with ifconfig and/or ip.

First elevate to the root user with:
    su

    Then:
    ip link set wlan0 down
    ip link set wlan0 up

... will take down the wireless interface, then start it again. And...
    ifconfig wlan0

... will show the local IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.

I'm not overly familiar with the commands, but poking around might give you a hint at what's wrong (assuming it's not hardware failure).

You've been asked by others but not responded, have you changed your router recently? If so to what and what exactly is the tablet?
