What Current Account, Savings Account and Credit Cards!!!

Hi all,

new to this forum, a friend recommended the site and have found it really helpful.

Afetr reading some of the guides i decided i needed to re organise my finances. At present all i have is a current account with HSBC and an Instant Savings Account with HSBC. What i am looking to set up is shown below:

x1 Current Account - All Bills etc
x1 Savings Account - Longterm Saving
x1 Savings Account - Instant Savings Birthdays, Christmas etc
x1 ISA - Dont know much about ISA's but been told i need one!?
x1 Credit Card - Used for 12 months interest free

Now im no money expert! Is this the right way for me to organise my finances?

If it is can anybody give me some advice as to what are the best deals for the above, so far the best deals i have found are:

Current Account - Halifax / Natwest / Alliance & Leicester
Savings Account - Halifax / Alliance & Leicester
ISA - Unsure
Credit Card - Halifax / Egg / Capital One

Please help looking to change all within the next few weeks as my finances are all over the place. I have no Loans and have about 3k in a savings account at present.

I look forward to your replies

Cheers
Craig

  • Can I suggest that you look at the tabs at the top of the page, which link to the main site. Try the 'cards and loans' and 'banking and saving' one. The reasons is that there is, as ever, more than one option and you will need to choose the products that suit your lifestyle. There is a lot of information on the main site that will help you choose.

    What I do is:

    - keep my current account with HSBC/First Direct
    - Nationwide for debit/credit card for overseas use only
    - Capital One/Egg Money for cashback credit cards.
    - most savings with ICICI/IceSave

If I had a cash ISA, I would use the National Savings Direct ISA and if I needed a 'instant' savings account then I would use the HSBC Online Bonus Saver and/or the FlexSaver account.

I don't keep much money in my current account, so prefer decent service/internet banking rather than a high interest rate

    Regards
    Sunil
