Hi me again. With an update on my earlier post. Especially for those sceptics out there who made snidey remarks to the OP. You should find this interesting. It's now 4 weeks since our new Askham sofa arrived from DFS and because were still affected by Voc's and off gasing I contacted them on Wednesday to see if they could help. Not only was it me, now hubby's chest is killing him and was even sent for an xray by GP and one of the dogs breathing was also starting to worry us. Anyway . Later that day I was contacted by their Service Manager who asked if he could come straight over, which he did. We explained everything and he said he had heard of it before but not actually witnessed it and he thought it might be the foam in the cushions. He opened one of the cushions stuck his face in and gave a big sniff but couldn't smell anything. He suggested that we change the foam interiors to fibre and see if that solved the problem. He said he would order the new cushions which would take about 4 weeks and that they would take the suite back next week and bring us a temporary suite in the meantime. So the plan of action was take the suite back change the fillings them bring it back and see if we still had problems. If we did then we would have to choose another suite. He also suggested that in the week we had to wait for it to be collected that we remove all the cushions and the pouffe or if the house and see if that improved the situation. As soon as he left we did this which was around 7 .30pm. That night was the worst night ever. I never slept a wink as I could hardly breathe, chest was burning, hubby also had issues and the poor dog was wheezing. The following morning just gone 9am the phone went and it was Dfs saying that they were coming to pick the suite up within the hour. This they did and left us a replacement. After discussing with my husband and due to the problems the night before decided that by taking the cushions away hadn't made any improvement in fact it had made it worse therefore the suite framework was also an issue so on friday morning I contacted the Service maanger to tell him what had happened and that we did not want the suite back as changing the cushions would not have solved anything. He then told me that he was going to ring me as the reason he had arranged to pick it up immediately wad that in his way home from his visit his gave had started to itch and that by the time he got home and looked in the mirror his eyes were all bloodshot and stinging. He said it had lasted about two hours. I told him i was sorry he'd been ill but very glad at the same time and commented he'd only been in the house about an hour when we has been living with it 24/7 for nearly a month . He then said the suite was going to be sent back to the manufacturer to be incinerated as there was definately something wrong. The suite had been manufactured in Holland. So, we are now in the process of choosing another suite and I will also be ringing them on Monday to see about compensation as although we are feeling much better now ,it's going to take a while for our chest and breathing issues to recover fully. I'm sorry this is another long post but I thought it important to let people and the OP know that this is a genuine problem . DFS have confirmed it! I hope the OP of this thread is no longer in this situation and if he still is I would suggest he contacts Dfs in regards to this matter and checks to see where the suite was made. We both must have ordered around the same time . If you don't get any joy from the store you purchased it from then contact the Head Office in Doncaster as they should be aware as to my situation.

Try the open windows and see how it goes.
If You are thinking to return it ( assuming You bought it brand new from the shop ) make sure You do that within 14 days/
If You got nothing nice to say , don't say anything at all

  • hi all. I’ve been suffering extreme itchy eyes and other symptoms for four years. I’ve had 4 rounds of steroids to control it and in between applying anti allergy eye drops along with 4 fexafenadine daily. My GP has sent me to various clinics to get a diagnosis. We have spent a few months recently trying to pin down the culprit and it was definitely our DFS sofa. Within 3 days of banishing it to the dining room I have no symptoms at all and am off all the medication. I’m now waiting for DFS to contact me as we need to buy a new sofa and don’t want to make another mistake. How will I know what to avoid?
