No Drop Kerb - can lender refuse mortgage?

The scruffy place to the left of the paved drive + Zafira?
Zoom out to the aerial, and there's a car parked in the middle of the grass...
Can't see any conceptual issues - but it's going to pull the last remaining on-road parking away from the end of the cul-de-sac.
Not sure where the streetlight's going, either, without peeing the neighbours off because it's going across the front of their open paving (but not the drop kerb...)
Is the footpath shared with the next-door semi in the next pair?0 -
Usually the last resort for the insurers is that they'll pay you the reduction in value in the property if whatever the defect is can't be remedied.OK, so now we know that (as suspected) the indemnity won't pay for doing the work. We still don't know what it will pay for... But it'll pay £220k max. Woo.0 -
That is IMPRESSIVE @davidmcn... spot on!
Yes .. its block paved now..see the other right move link in David's post. The scruffy place to the left of the paved drive + Zafira?
I believe Yes, its shared. Is the footpath shared with the next-door semi in the next pair?
So, what do I do now? I really want the drop kerb done. Now or later.0 -
At the most you will only get one car on there. You can't park over next door's access and it is too narrow for two cars.
Why have the vendors created a parking space in the backgarden? Is this because they have applied for dropped kerb and it has been refused?
If you can't get the dropped kerb done and you want one and you haven't exchanged contracts on this house you may need to withdraw your offer and find a different house.
You also need to check that you aren't paying too much for it. It doesn't have offstreet parking at the front so it should be cheaper than one that does.0 -
Looking at various councils they quote a minimum width of drive where it meets the footpath of 2.75m. Those views seem to show less than that so a dropped kerb may not be possible.
You can not include the footpath as part of the width0 -
Have you looked at what the council requirements? One of the requirements with my council was that 1/4 of the driveway needs to be permeable surface amongst the minimum length and width requirements.[STRIKE]2016: Hopefully be a FTB

Sorry Alan, Its not about someone stealing my house... its not even my house yet!
I am just not sure what level/type of information I can provided in a public forum. This is a semi detached house at the end of a cul de sac road in Stechford, Birmingham. Please let me know if you need any more info.
No worries, looking at the property I doubt huge difference in value, so I would not worry a lot. However parking can be an issue and you will get blocked in. Maybe if everyone clubs together council will do bulk discount and drop everyone’s kerb, they do that where I live.0 -
If getting a dropped kerb is that important to you it may be worth paying the council for an inspection.0

The estate-based van next to the Zafira is encroaching on next door's driveway.
Also, where the dropped kerb would need to go is too narrow and putting a dropped kerb in would mean, as probably now happens, driving over the neighbour's drive to access the one in question.
Don't think the council would allow one in that position.0
