Amazon firestick issue

Hi All,
On 16th Nov, I bought a firestick for 49.99
On the 19th Nov, they dropped it to 34.99 so I contacted customer services.
Said to them I wasn't happy something new had come out and they've dropped it already.
To save the hassle of sending back and getting another one cheaper I asked for a part refund.
They said they couldn't do that so instead gave me a full refund and told me to keep it (result!)
Fast forward to now, my firestick has been blocked by amazon as they say its essentially free.
They say they will only turn it back on if I pay 34.99!
They have copies of the chat history from today and also from the 19th but still won't budge.
They have admitted it was a mistake on the 19th on their side but thats no my problem its theirs, surely I can't be billed 3 months after purchase, help!

You're serious? You've been given a firestick free of charge after a very generous goodwill gesture they didn't need to make, you've had use of it for three months free of charge and in order to continue using it they're now asking you to pay the reduced price you complained about not being able to get it for in the first place?

    Unbelievable...
  • I suspect its not the firestick that has been blocked , just your account (email address)

Im not asking for sarcasm, Im asking for an answer.
If you went into a shop and bought something for £10 and 3 months later its £50 and they decide to charge you the extra £40 for it would you be miffed?
  • boycott amazon then , simples

You were happy to pay 34.99 for it to begin with so whats your issue ? Would you have called them if the price had gone up ? No, thought not. I think you're being cheeky asking for a refund to begin with !

It wasn't sarcasm. I'm asking if you genuinely think you have a complaint because I think you're being ridiculous.

In what possible way is your attempted analogy even remotely similar? You're not being charged extra. You paid £50, the price then reduced to £35 (these things happen), you complained and ended up paying nothing. As a result you've had a product and a service for three months for absolutely no cost. Now they're saying that in order to continue to enjoy the product and service, you need to pay £35 which is £15 less than you originally paid in the first place and which you actually complained was the sum you wanted to pay.

How is being charged £40 extra for a fictional product three months later remotely comparable?

Its the fact that Amazon as a company haven't honoured something they have stated at the time.
I said to the person today that if they can show in their terms that mistakes made by amazon would need to be rectified by the customer then I would be more than happy to pay.
As of yet they have found nothing and came up with the "system will not allow" response
  • But they're not asking you to rectify their mistake. They gave you a refund and allowed you to keep the item. Effectively that closed the sale and the contract between you but they probably reasoned it was easier to let you keep the item rather than incur the hassle of having you return it. They're now asking you to pay if you wish to start a new contract. You can do so, either using the firestick they gave you or you could buy an entirely new one. Either way, you are no worse off and still considerably better off than you were on the 16th November.

I would be careful what you wish for. They have already shown a lot of goodwill. Push too hard with a nonsense argument like this and they may just close your account entirely. They don't need unreasonable customers who beat them with their own generosity.

How have they blocked an individual Firestick? In what way is it blocked?

@post #10 ... there is no contract with a Firestick. There may be contracts for individual apps on the stick, but not for the stick itself. The only related contract may be Amazon Prime, but that's not specific to a particular stick, as the OP already confirms.
