This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning, sorry to hear that you aren't well OL.
I'm up and we have quite a busy day. OH is taking DS for a medical appointment first thing, when they return, OH is helping a neighbour with something, then this afternoon I'm going to the appointment with a voluntary organisation for some sessional work. That's a good hour's drive away, going there is not a problem but I don't much fancy the return journey in the rush hour - on a motorway that frequently grinds to a halt. At least no snow this time, the original arrangements, two weeks ago, we're cancelled because of snow.
Sending good wishes to all those who are unwell, sad or worried and thinking of Snoozer and Steve.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still pitch black, dry underfoot after the sky clearing and lovely sunshine yesterday, today is supposed to be warmer too, we'll see.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was jacket potatoes, tuna mayo, ham, boiled egg, side salad, beans and coleslaw, enjoyed by us all. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost, so tonight we'll be having chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, mash, veg and gravy.
Yesterday work was either manic or dead, we're in our calm before the storm period. I'm now on days' off and don't go back until Monday but have the ever growing "to do" list - have lots to do today, so will try and get as much done as possible today, so it makes tomorrow less busy. DS2 has a dentist appointment this afternoon in the next town, so need to take him for that.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks HOLLY for the start. Yet again insomnia struck me but I am beginning to think that's how it will always be now. OL sorry you feel grim, there are lots of bugs around this time of year.
Aldi day for me but still trying to live from the freezers so it's mostly fruit, veg and dairy on my list. Plenty of meat, fish, fruit and veggie stuff still in the freezer. DD picking me up at 8.30 on her way to school so should hopefully beat the rush in Aldi and be back home again in good time.
The 3 DGDs are here for tea and sleepover so the usual Bolognese Bake for tea. Will crack on with that when I get back and then it's just ready for throwing in the oven later.
Hairdresser coming around 1.00 to give me a much needed trim and then the afternoon is my own till the girls descend on me later. I may potter with some mundane jobs or I may just get my feet up and think s*d it! The latter sounds more appealing.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. TAFF, HOLLY, POPPY and STEVE/SNOOZER in my thoughts. Take care all xx
Just as I was going to send this I got a text from DD with the sad news that a boy she had known all her life has just died suddenly. He would be about 46, same age as her, with a DD same age as her youngest. Life can be so cruel, that is no age. Yet another example of live life whilst you can as you don't know what's waiting to happen. So very sad."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
Rubbish nights sleep here, not sure why, yesterday wasn't difficult at work, we had a meeting then I went with some colleagues to buy storage boxes, had lunch, booked some flights to Oz for the summer and went home! Sadly today will be somewhat busier.
It's still very breezy but so far is dry and mild, it's good to see the days getting longer.
Thinking of the poorlies and worrieds. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Very thick frost here this morning and very cold indeed its meant to get up to 10deg later on though so a bit warmer.

Going to see a friend in hosputal after work its about an hours drive away, she has had major surgery dd is coming with me and we will stop for some food on the way so a later night for me.

Right have good days all xx0 -

Good morning one and all,
A rather pleasant morning in Manchester. No clouds in the sky and quite mild.
Uneventful couple of days here. Most notable news is my renewed focus on healthy eating/exercising. I even went to the gym this morning!! I've got a chicken breast out defrosting for some new recipe tonight. and in between that, I need to pack for heading back up to Scotland tomorrow afternoon.
What do you think girls; beard or no beard? (on a man...)
For the first time ever, I work in a place where they're relaxed on the issue of facial hair. Everywhere else has been a lot more traditional, shall we say. Just before Christmas, I lost the charger for my electric shaver which kept it to a very short stubble, so I've let it grow since then. Can't decide wither to keep it or not. Not fussed either tbh, so whats the consensus?0 -
No beard for me... I remember you asking this before how did it go last time?0
-
Speky, it depends on the face. Steve had a beard when I first met him (42 years ago) and kept it till it started going grey, I remember the kids freaked out the first time they saw him without it at the ages of 6 and 9.
I'm sorry for the abbreviated post last night, I was feeling quite down, Steve's temp had shot up again and they ended up putting ice packs under his arms. He was supposed to have a CT scan yesterday to see if he'd picked up a fungal infection in his lungs which wouldn't show on normal x-ray but it hadn't happened by 11.00. They also put him on a fluid drip because the room is so hot that, although he's drinking lots, the dr thinks he's dehydrated. He's in a sealed room with a complete wall of radiator which can't be adjusted and it's like the sahara. We'll see what today brings.
Sue went home yesterday and I went round to see Crystal on my way home from the hospital. They are having their boiler changed to one that actually has an economy rating. The plumber had found a gas leak on the meter so someone had to come out to repair it last night.
Laura has been sending me photos of Ziggy to cheer me up - she is such a cute puppy.0 -
Good morning folks.
A murky and mild day here, perfect for pottering around. I've stripped the bed so will do a white wash soon. I don't relish the wrangle with clean bedding.
There's a few bits and pieces to do, a phone call and several emails to sort out. Then there's the mystery of my Thursday student turning up or not. He's a different one from last semester though same problem! I'm not driving to Oban just in case he doesn't turn up.
I hope everyone is doing OK, happy Thursday to all.0
