Broken Display on N95

Hi, my Nokia N95 display has broken, with approx 50% of the glass underneath the flimsy plastic cover now showing just a black screen, where I used to be able to view photos, messages etc.
I didn't take out phone insurance, and hoped that the guarantee would cover any problems during the 1st year.
After speaking to staff in the network's high street store, they tell me that this is classed as accidental damage and won't be covered by my guarantee. Do you think this is a valid judgement? I touched the screen whilst opening the phone, and there's no other damage to the phone itself.
Otherwise, should I take accidental damage cover to my home insurance to cover such an incident? I've generally been wary of insurance from mobile co's, as I had to take it out on the day of purchase - things are a bit more confusing / complex for me, as I'm mentally handicapped.
Thanks for any advice guys!

i think you will find you will have to pay for the cost of the screen repair.
if you took out the insurance and it covered accidental damage, it would have been cheaper to replace0 -
Thanks for your messages guys. I will give you a call next week, to see what you think the cost will be.
If anyone else has any views, these are gladly received.
Eg. not fit for purpose screen enlosure etc!0 -
i have just recently been given a n95 by my mate, i dont like the way there isnt much screen protection on it compared to my k810.
it does seem like it will break easily to me due to the thickness of the top part of the slider0 -
i had a PDA which i dropped within the first week of getting it,and broke the screen.i huffed and puffed but in the end claimed on house insurance.Never again:mad: i have a motorola pebl now, and it bounces very well:cool:living on the "edge"0

ebay sellers are selling replacement screens for the N95, but I assume that this invalidates the manufacturer warranty. Typical cost is £30 ish.
Poor design, with no LCD screen protection for what is a great phone, and would-be wonderful display. From looking on google, I've seen a host of other N95 screen problems, so users beware of this phone!! Just touching the screen can totally break it! Really not fit for purpose, in my opinion, unlike the older Nokias which had hard plastic/glass type screen.
The above mentioned service centre roughly estimate £95 for the screen and fitting it: not provided by the member giving feedback, as they were unable to quote as their nokia engineer is away this week. Helpful people though.
Almost worth getting an e2save money back contract for a new phone, with cashback, for a bit more!0
