Issued a Penalty Charge for a prescription, yet I paid!

I just got a 'lovely' letter from the NHS saying I owe them £52.80 for falsely claiming for a free prescription.
Now I know for sure that I would not do this. Yet I have no proof of this as I paid in cash for my medication that day.
Is there anything I can do to fix this situation? as I fear without a receipt (from November) I am stuffed..
I got my medication from Boots in central London.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Not an easy one to win unfortunatly.
Could be the box was ticked after you left and the money pocketed.
You should ask them to double check as you paid (and maybe send you a copy of the form).
Best ringing them. OH got a similar issue a while back (though she has a prepay certificate which made it easier!) and the initial appeal by email was useless. However if was sorted out very quick with a phone call!0 -
Always get a receipt and keep it safe for stuff like this it saves the hassle.
Ask to see the prescription where you claimed it free supposedly?0 -
All that happened to my wife was, she insisted she paid for it (which she did), she hadn't kept the receipt, they just asked her to sign something saying she had paid, and that was the end of it.
While she now keeps the receipts for prescriptions in a box somewhere just in case it happens again, the reality is, most people buy their prescription and have no need to keep the receipt as they wont be returning the product etc, hence most people bin them within the week. The NHS is well aware of this. The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.
Who will we blame then?0 -
Oh I fully acknowledge most people will bin them, I just tend to be one of those people that keep receipts safe for a long period of time.0

Pay on card for prescriptions, simple and easy0

it is most frustrating.. normally i pay by card but I was given a lump some of cash for something the month before, so i was using cash for nearly everything. Wont make that mistake again for a prescription.
Ive been back to the Boots and the pharmacist said they will request the prescription paperwork to be sent back to her from the NHS to look at. But I fear at the end of the day, without a receipt, i really wont have any proof at all. Shocking to think that a mistake by them ticking the wrong box can cause a £50 fee! *furious*:mad:--- Hitting the thanks button as often as is needed ---0 -
What you should also do, and you should accept them saying they will do it for you, is fill in how much you have paid on the back of the prescription by looking at the receipt and sign and date it.0
