Help to buy - when married to someone who has a house

Hi, based off the advice on this site my wife has just tried to open a help to buy mortgage. Recently married, I own my own house and mine is the only name on the mortgage, she has never owned a house.



She tried to open one with Barclays and was told that if she opened one she could not then use it to purchase a house with me (with both our names on it), only if she was the only person on the mortgage (so she did not open one). Is this information correct?

Do you mean a Help to Buy ISA?

She has been misinformed. She may use a HTB ISA as a first time buyer to buy a house with you. She must be on the mortgage, but it may also be in joint names with a non-FTB.

Thank you both for confirming what I thought, Martin recommended Barclays Help to Buy ISA and so thats why she tried that one, she might look elsewhere or try and get someone more helpful at Barclays.
