sanctuary housing nightmare

A elderly(86) friend called me @ 03.30 last week to say her kitchen was flooded. On inspection, the wall hung boiler was pouring water al over the main electrics beneath.I managed to turn off water @mains and after 2 hours swept out the water and mopped up.She called the 24 hour call out service who sent an electrician a few hours later. He could do nothing. Now the real problem is that when the plumber eventually came later that day, he informed her nothing could be done as a part had to be ordered and it would take 10 days! After many calls they promised to fix the boiler last Monday, so she stayed in all day. Now Wednesday, and nothing has been done and she still does not know when the problem will be sorted. We've tried calling the Church of England pensions board but seem to be washing their hands of it.Any suggestions/comments please.

Right, so you have the part that's needed? No?
    Does she? no?
So how exactly do you expect a repair to be done without ordering it?...

As an aside, they should supply a source of heat for one or two rooms.

Assuming this is a tenancy with sanctuary housing it's not the tenants responsibility to order parts. That would be the landlords job.

it's called sarcasm; granted it doesn't come across well on a forum.

I think the point is that no one currently has the part (the landlord would also rely on the plumber to order it, landlords don't generally keep stocks of random boiler parts). That being the case, there is no solution beyond waiting for the part to arrive.

The LL should provide temporary heating at the very least. Is the electricity back on, any other source of hot water?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for all replies, the problem is not waiting for parts although I never have to wait very long withBG when a part is needed,it's the fact that they tell her it's going to be fixed last Monday, she stays in all day,no one calls to tell her it's not happening, now almost 2 weeks since the brown they still haven't even called her to arrange an appointment.Sanctuary Housing fitted the boiler originally. The leccy bill for her heaters is going to be astronomical.

Did she call them on Tuesday morning to complain about the missed appointment and ask when they would attend? Don't wait for them to call you, call them and explain the situation.
