Can I sell my contract phone?

Hi all, looked for similar threads, but couldn't find any.
I signed an 18 month contract (in August) with Orange that included a free handset. Whilst I'm happy with the contract, I don't like the phone.
Have looked on my contract and it says "Your device is not part of your contract. Your device and accessories are acquired by you outside the terms of your contract."
I'd really like to sell it and buy a different phone, but am a bit worried because some people have been telling me this isn't legal. I've asked orange directly via e-mail and they totally avoided my question saying that I could up-grade in 6 months or something!
Can anyone offer me any advice please?

yes you can sell it. tbh orange dont care but remember to cancel orange care on the handset if you sell it.0
