and does anybody actually believe this petition is going to achieve anything??? Do you think the government is going to take note? Do you think the government cares? Do you really REALLY believe that a few people signing an online petition is going to change ANYTHING? If you do then you're as deluded as the fools running this country. This country is called Great Britain. It would be called Amazing Britain if it wasn't for people like you pulling the average down0

We are not greedy, its a legit expense. When we work we should not expect to subsidies our employer with providing free cars for their use.
I use to use my car a lot of business, its not just cost of petrol. its servicing and buying the car in the firstplace. Its no fun going to the garage for a service and coming out with bills for a £1000 when post of the miles you have done since the last service was due to business miles, nor is it fun to have to buy a new car much sooner than expected due to total business miles having worn your car down.
So instead of !!!!!ing and whining, if most of the mileage you do in your car is business mileage, refuse to use your own car and tell them to provide a company car if you think you're badly done to and out of pocket.
But you won't because you know I'm right and you're not and I'm proven right every time you renew your car insurance and select "Business Use".
I've shown the maths that proves you're quids in. Somehow I doubt you can show me the maths proving it costs you over £16.00 to do a 40 mile journey. And when you're doing it, remember the only depreciation you can claim is that caused by the additional mileage and you can't claim road tax, MOTs and with most companies, insurance either as Class A business use is usually free....0 -

I actually don't use my car for business use anymore, I do have a company car now instead.
I will agree that uou can sometimes be quids in, but does depend on the type of car you have the age of car and miles you do. some you lose some you win. I made a 10 mile trip a while back where some sod scratched the side of my car in a carpark and just left without giving details, damage was far more than the £4 i could cliam back than mileage0 -
would love to add to the financial side of this argument but - to be honest it is more a case (for me ) of having to have a car in order to work and then having to travel to the other side of the county to do it! For me I have to have a car as part of my contract - they wont provide a company car until I have worked at least 6 months. It is 90 miles return to work before I can even start claiming mileage and the average claiming miles are about 400 so please tell me how I win?!
Just wish it would go back to the old tax credit system which took into consideration travelling costs!0 -

ISTR that HMRC don't require the normal commute (90 miles in your case) to be deducted from a claim where you go directly to a different place. If so then your employer requiring you to do so is an issue between you & them0 -
40p a mile is a good amount, I know couriers who make a living off a simillar sum0
