Central heating playing up - ideas please

Hi, Just wondering if anyone can advise me, boiler is working, hot water is very hot (hotter than usual) one radiator is partially warm but the others are cold. I am thinking that it might be a problem with the pump. Does this sound likely? Is there anything I should try before getting the heating engineers in?

If it is the pump what sort of bill am I looking at?

Thanks.

    It does sound likely.

When the heating has been off for a while(so the pump and inlet/outlet pipes are cold) - switch on the heating. If the inlet pipe gets hot quickly and the outlet doesn't, it probably means your pump is kaput.

Normally CH pumps are quite easy to change - if they are accessible.

They range from £50 to £100 and fitting in most places should not take long.

I guess a ballpark figure is £100. Not a difficult DIY job for a handyman. Plenty of advice on-line.
  • i had a similar problem, my system needed a clear out , it had sludged up. i got some de-sludge stuff from wickes for a tenner, it tells u wot 2 do on the bottle. u drain the system and add it to the header tank. sometimes pumps respond like old TVs to a thump, also try changing the speed with the switch on the side.
