Avios points BA flights

I have about 110k points and want a long haul to Asia.
I don't mind economy or bus class or anything.
As others have said, using Avios for longhaul economy flights is generally considered poor use of Avios since such a large part of the cash price is made up taxes and surcharges that must be paid on Avios bookings as well (although Avios bookings are much more flexible than cheap economy fares which should be kept in mind). The problem with booking business class (or even WT+) is that you don't have enough Avios. Honestly, you'll probably be better off buying a cash ticket and use your Avios for something else, e.g. shorthaul redemptions.0 -
It will give you a healthy discount on your tickets if used as cash+avios. Have you tried logging in and placing a dummy booking all the way to the pay screen? It will give you a list of discounts available.
Still not the best value, but something.
Alternatively sign up for a BA Amex and spend enough to trigger a 2-4–1 which doubles the value of your avios for straight redemptions.Legal team on standby0 -
BA don't fly to Colombo (CMB) however partner airlines Sri Lankans and Qatar do. Therefor peak pricing applies and you won't be able to use the ,£100 off for 5000 Avoid either.
If you could get a BA Amex. Generate a ,2 4 1 voucher and with the extra earned Avois you would have buying power equivalent to around 280K avois.
Then you could start looking at India, far east
,Off peak etc business class.as long as it's on BA metal0 -
If you have status the Gold Line effectively act as a travel agent, and are incredibly good at finding redemptions across One World (especially if you can be flexible with dates and fare-classes) - even when these don't show in the online tool.0

Thanks all, I'm looking now.
I'll be happy to just use up my 110,000 avios for a discountNothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future0 -
I don't have so many Avios, but I'm finding that when I look up BA tickets directly through BA they are more expensive than with the likes of Netflights, so the savings I'm making are really minimal. A bit annoying - am I missing something?0

If you are looking at economy; then yes, as in the thread, Avios are really not a saving on economy flights. Save them up and expand them with a 2-4-1 and look at business/first long haul flights.
Two adults can fly First to St Lucia for 170k plus taxes of approximately £1k using a 2-4-1. A revenue ticket would be anything from £5k each return (off peak).0 -

As a rule, you are only getting 0.5p per Avios discount off flights.
Not great.
You can get similar discount using them for hotels.
That way you can broaden your flight search to include ALL airlines (i.e Skyscanner) and get up to £700 of hotels via your 140K Avios0
