Avios points BA flights

We are planning a long haul flight to use up some avios points, has anybody got any tips for getting the most out of your avios points?

I read somewhere that you can get about 1p per point, but I'm not seeing anything that good the flights I want.

I wish there was a travel agent who could help me?

To get that much value from Avios, you need to pay cash for flights in premium economy and use the Avios to upgrade to business. In general, long-haul economy flights give the lowest possible value for Avios -- in some cases the "taxes and charges" you have to pay on them are more than the cost of paying cash for the same journey!

Anyway, log on to the booking tool and explore what is possible paying with cash and Avios.

And don't forget that there are ways to use Avios on airlines like Iberia, Malaysian and of course Finnair.

firstly what class of travel are you looking to redeem in? (long haul economy is rarely worth using Avios for) where do you want to go, how many people and how many points do you have?

    Exactly.
There would be no incentive for a travel agent to save you as much money as possible as less money getting paid means less commission for them.

Don't focus too much on where the best value is, focus more on what you actually want to do with your Avios. I can easily find flights where the value of your Avios would be 5p/Avios but what does it matter if it's for a product you would never have bought using cash and have no particular interest in? If you tell us how many Avios you have and what you would like to use them for it will be much easier to advice.

You don't say where you are going or from which Airport.

BA will charge you taxes & fess, which can easily out weigh the value of the flight.

Different Airlines different taxes & fees & that includes Aer Lingus & Iberia
Private Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA :D
  • 1. How many avios do you have?
    2. Where are you looking to depart from ?
    3. Are you tied to school holidays?

As others said you will rarely get value in economy due to taxes and fees.

I have about 110k points and want a long haul to Asia.

I don't mind economy or bus class or anything.

    From Heathrow to Columbia srilankan

Out of school holidays, so off peak, I have 80k points and my wife has about 30k.

So it doesn't have to be BA then?
