Why would the OP ask for advice if they were trying to pull a fast one. It’s more likely that Very repacked the dryer in the wrong box.

Some people post nonsense on here because they are bored, or want a reaction, or are angry at the retailer and just want to make mischief, or any number of other reasons.

I very much doubt Very repack products, especially "white goods".

All suppliers of white goods will occasionally repack for many reasons.

I agree 100% and think that anyone who believes that it cannot happen that a retailer might repack returns / display models is very naive
( just like people who gst upset by their new car being accident damaged and repaired believe that no car will ever have post factory paint rectification and repairs which I understand is actually quite common)
As other users have said there should be a serial number which may assist in Very uncovering the truth

  • OK, lots of replies to address then! The dryer I ordered is Beko DHY7340W which is a heat pump tumble dryer. It is very much BOTTOM of the range for a heat pump dryer so I was not expecting anything amazing at this price point. The model I have been sent is Beko DC7112W. When I look at them now it is clear these are very different models, but when I unpacked it I was not looking at a photo of the model I ordered and a Beko tumble dryer had been delivered which i assumed, wrongly as it turns out, was the correct one. It did not arrive in a box but wrapped in plastic with polystyrene corner protectors. The label on the top of the packaging says it is the correct unit as does the delivery note but the corner protectors have the barcode for the incorrect model. Very have not questioned this, they are merely hiding behind their returns policy which states that if it has been connected I cannot return it. I don't believe they've even looked into it properly to find out what has gone wrong. I'm not even bothered about returning it, as I need a tumble dryer and it works fine, but I am not happy about paying £310 for a £190 dryer. I haven't paid in full, I've used the buy now pay 12 months later option. It isn't a scam, although I can see how it could be, just a genuine mistake. I hope this covers all of the questions.
  • Whilst the models do look different (in terms of the dials etc, not the main body) you should also know that I ordered it several weeks ago so by the time it arrived I had less of a memory of what I'd ordered.
  • Thanks for the update. Keep pushing Very. They have a duty to switch to the correct unit or to refund you the difference in price if you're happy to keep the one you've got.

Disconnect it and stop using it though. Until you have got to a resolution with Very you shouldn't be using it.

I was reading through these posts and I think what is being suggested here is that you order a pricey tumble dryer from very. Order another one from say Argos. When the very one comes, tell them (very) it was actually a cheaper model that was sent. Let very take back the tumble dryer (from Argos) and get the refund. Then keep the pricey one.

I have to say that the OP should contact consumer direct for advice.

If you were outside of the 14 days to return under distance selling regs, you are going to completely rely on Very to offer some goodwill.

Look at it from their point of view - you open and use a product for a few weeks and then realise you have a completely different model of dryer. It's not even close to looking the same.

If they refuse to help you, the only course of action is small claims, but would a judge think your scenario reasonable? That's not a gamble I would take. Sorry.

Tell very you want to start a section 75 claim against them. If they refuse (to either process the claim or your section 75 claim) then ask them for a letter of deadlock and refer it to the financial ombudsman.

Or as I said before, remind them they cannot remove or restrict your statutory rights. Stand your ground with them and perhaps even offer to waive any other reasonable costs you incur as a result of their breach if they deal with it in a timely manner (may not be any costs incurred but they don't need to know that). Do it in some form of writing to them so you have a record of what has been said.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
