Hi Scarlett, what a brilliant diary.I went BR about the same time as you,and it really was hell for 3 weeks.Ive never had such a low state of mind,I wasnt expecting it and it came as a massive shock when my solicitor called me.I wanted to die,I was petrified about the ad in the paper, frozen bank accounts, losing everything.I had my OH i/view last week and to be honest I was exhausted from it so much so that I collapsed when I got home.Ive got the new coop bank a/c and have switched things over.Im self employed so I owe zero tax and the first 5k of earning is tax free.I made a decision at the weekend to totally forget all about it as it doesnt affect my work at all.
I also realised at the weekend that my mortgage is 7k higher than I thought which means the OR can only get 2k in equity!!! which is hardly worth it.
We're haggling over the car but that'll be sorted, its only a piece of metal after all.
Have you heard anymore from your OR? I get the feeling theyre really busy, they didnt want to see bank statements or anything, only the SOE got filled out and that was it after 2 1/2 hours.0 -
Afternoon all
Not much to update really, apart from me calling Northern Rock the week before last after yet another one of their "you are in £xxxxx arrears, your home is at risk blah blah blah" letters. I told the woman on the phone "we haven't paid since October, we won't be paying another penny again, we haven't lived in the damm house since January, (ALL OF WHICH THEY KNOW!) will you PLEASE just repossess it" and she promised to get right on with it  We had a letter a few days letter from their solicitors saying they would be starting repossession proceedings unless they hear from us within 7 days with a payment proposal....... so finally, I think things might be happening there.
Honestly, for anyone worrying about repossession and how long it takes before you "have to get out"...... in my experience, really don't worry, they certainly don't rush themselvesIt's been 6 months now since we paid anything and if I hadn't called them I don't think they'd have done anything yet.
Oh, and in case anyone is wondering - they refused to accept my letter as "Voluntary Repossession", they said the only way they could do things that way was if we signed the Voluntary Surrender form, which we refused to do.
No news from the OR regarging IPA (no news is good news hopefully!) or BRO/U.
H had to contact Natwest about something to do with his account and a couple of days after that he got a letter from them saying they were happy for his account to stay open. I, on the other hand, got a letter this week telling me they were closing all of my accounts :rolleyes:You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

I know Fermi, it's bonkers  If they'd just accept my letter they could have had the house back weeks ago. But because they refuse to, they're going through the formal repossession proceedure instead, which I assume will involve court, cost them more and take longer. Crazy! :rolleyes:You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

hi all, the letter northern rock asked you to sign Scarlett, was that the 'deed of acknowledgment' or something like that... i was advised not to sign as i think it means you will accept liability for any debts acrued on the house etc etc..
thanks for posting all this, its been a great read..you can see how your mind set has lifted since the LBM and decision on BR.
Well Done and thanks again.

Hi Dave,
Yep, it was something like that and it was on the advice I received here that made me decide we shouldn't sign it. Ultimately, it doesn't really matter, once you go BR any shortfall IS included in it, but from what I've been told it CAN make things more complicated for the OR and annoying the OR wasn't something I wanted to do
Thanks for your kind wordsYou're right, I'm a completely different person these days
